You can drink it, but its really not the best choice. If you are a diabetic with kidney problems, then it will put an additional burden on kidneys that are already strained. Some diabetics choose not to drink it, since it can cause too much acid in the stomach, has a lot of caffiene and tends to rot your teeth (the acidity, remember?)
Its better to drink plain water, Green Tea, plain tea, or a low carb soya milk (regular cow's milk is rather high in carbs, while some soya milks, and also some almond milks are low (the unsweetened ones). Check the labels to see which are really low. Around 3 to 5 carbs per cup is a fairly acceptable carb limit for beverages of this type.
Someone raised the issue of possible unknown side effects from artificial sweeteners. There is still the possibility that we will find out down the road that these sweetners are in fact toxic. We just don't know. Therefore, its best to drink them only in moderation, for a treat now and then.
For everyday thirst quenching, water can't be beat. It gives your body what it needs - hydration, without any potential toxins. (provided you can get purified water that is).
The cleanest water is steam distilled, but its too expensive to produce at home. Reverse osmosis water purification systems are availabe for at home and you can also buy water treated this way at water markets.
Water helps flush toxins out of the body, while coke, whether diet or regular just adds to the burden.
With a serious disease like diabetes, its best to eat as healthy as you can, and that includes what you drink.

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://tinyurl.im/aHLyJ
The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/bAhoA
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

I can only share what happened to my husband when he switched from regular sodas, to diet, when he found out he was a diabetic- his blood sugar still rose- but that this is not even the worst of it-
One day, he could hardly sit up in bed and really at first thought nothing of it, because he has a back problem. However it got progressively worse and he could barely walk from the bed to our bathroom, which is just a few steps. He went to his chiro. which has always helped and he basically told him that it was nerve damage, and that he would get worse, and there was nothing he could do. A few days later, he even got worse- and he asked me to get him a diet tea- I think it was. I went to get it for him, and we both looked at each other, and said, "you don't think this artificial sweetner could be doing something, do ya?" SO needless to say for the next few hours , I research and researched websites- and found MANY people that have written in about not being able to walk- and even some docs told them they may have MS- they stopped the usage of artificial sweetners and within 2 weeks were better, and eventually walked ok again.
My husband went off cold turkey- which gave him the worse "withdrawal" headache ever- but within a few days, started feeling some better, and within a month was back to what he considers normal. I would not recommend it, however, others seem to be fine. Just be careful

There is a lot of stuff on the internet that is basically fat-shaming diabetics for causing their own diabetes with their bad diet and lack of exercise and general lack of moral fibre. A lot of this stuff is written by non-doctors, often with a supplement or diet or training plan to sell that they claim will completely cure diabetes if only people stick to it.
I read this interesting book https://tr.im/OuZJa that gave me a lot of useful tips about my disease and also a different perspective on the best therapeutical approach. I think you should read it too.
I hope it helps
