A small variation is common, but this sounds like you may have tested inconsistently.

Did you rub the area before you lanced it, to bring fresh blood to the surface of the skin? You should do this every time, otherwise you can get a low or high reading that doesn't truly reflect the current blood glucose levels.

Also, after meals, blood sugar is rising, sometimes quickly, so I would expect a slight rise. He might be digesting his food a little slower causing a higher rise later, rather than earlier.

I'd recommend testing 2 hours after a meal and again at 2.5 hours, and again at 3 hours. Try doing this after supper for three days in a row, and see which one gives you the higher reading. And don't forget to rub the finger or arm where you are taking the test sample from.

If its at 2.5 hours or 3 hours, then he should be testing a little later to get a true reading. Everyone's digestion varies, and some diabetics have nerve damage in their digestive system that slows down glucose absorption.

Has the machine been calibrated recently? Are the strips out of date? Any of these can cause error. Also, did you let the alcohol dry before poking...could have been diluted. Anyway...no worries, it is still a good level. Good Luck!

It sounds like your monitor error-ed out. When was the last time it was checked out with the test solution? You also might want to check the battery. If it does this again you might want to get a new meter. Several companies have an exchange policy where they will replace your old monitor with a new one. I'd check with your Dr. or Pharmacist.
Good luck.
