Nearly all newbies to this website contract a rare illness called, "Spamarama Ego-Psychosis", in which they pretend to be something they are not, and/or have some disease which they don't (usually found by randomly surfing the 'net), and/or have some other problem that they don't have.

In fact, all they have is a bizarre, twisted, unmerited, sense of hubris, in which they think they are better than everyone else, and, thus, are "allowed" to waste everyone's time by asking inane questions and/or giving poor answers, usually followed by trolling the health forums pretending to be pregnant or suffering from zits.

Of course, none of the above applies to YOU! ;)

FFI is passed down through the generations, but most likely that is not the problem you have unless it's been an issue your whole life. My suggestion is to go see your doctor; visit a pulmonologist; do a sleep study; and eventually the doctors will probably suggest a CPap machine (if it's your breathing that is affecting your inability to sleep, if not then atleast with the sleep study they will figure out what is going on).

I have Sleep Apnea and use a CPap. When I first starting having problems was a few years ago, but then last year I it started getting worse and worse and I kept stop breathing while I was sleeping and having feelings like I was having a heart-attack. The doctors were convinced that I was having panic attacks while sleeping because I am not obese (most ppl with Sleep Apnea are obese), needless to say, they were wrong because the proof was in the sleep clinic study. Now that I have my CPap machine I sleep better, longer, and no longer stop breathing.

GL and I hope this helps.

Wow! You are a case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing! You jumped right to fatality. Listen, you probably just ate something with a little too much sugar or msg or some other kind of stimulant in it. Or maybe you've got alot on your mind right now so are finding hard to relax. Take a nice hot shower before bed and make sure you don't eat anything within a couple of hours of going to bed. Also, try to watch for hidden caffeine and sugars in the things you are eating and drinking. I had trouble sleeping myself last night and I just checked the ingredients on the bottle of Bertolli tomatoe sauce I used to make supper and it has 9 grams of sugar in it! No wonder I tossed and turned for hours! And if you're dipping into the Halloween candy that doesn't help either!

Personally, I don't think you have anything to worry about. The gene responsible for Fatal Familial Insomnia has only been detected in 40 families in the whole world, and I'm sure yours is not one of them. Besides, if you were FFI-positive, you would be experiencing panic attacks, hallucinations and rapid weight loss.
If you are experiencing insomnia, however, try alternative medicine or winding down with some herbal tea. If it does persist for some time, however, consult your doctor.

Most likely you don't have that. There are tons of reasons why you might have trouble sleeping. Anything from stress to diet to medication can affect how you sleep. If you keep having trouble then go see a doctor.

I have had insomnia for years and I don't think we have that. When you go without sleep (as it sounds you have :) ) sometimes you become more sensitive to suggestion. Don't worry. We will be fine. If you are not sleeping in a day or two. Call your pharmacists and check on what you may need to get you back on schedule.

well, depends on family history. does anyone in your family have it?

if not, you're just going through a cycle (happens to everyone) when our bio clock just went haywire.

and stop thinking of morbid thoughts, maybe hat is why its screwing with your sleep pattern.
