My girlfriend started getting genital warts around 7 months ago. The first few months we thought that they were just razor bumps. We have continued having unprotected sex during this time. We have been together in a monogomus relationship for 3 years too. I developed plater warts on my feet around the same time she started noticeing the bumps. Then she got diagnosed with the warts when she went to the docter because the bumps started looking like warts. I dont have any signs of the warts. I am concerned that we can pass them too me. I heard even if you use a condom it doesnt gaurentee that you wont get it because you are exposed still in the areas where your not wearing the condom. Since we have been having sex 3 times a week for years is it ok that we just continue to have sex as usual with no condoms or what?

1. Plantar warts are a different strain than genital warts. They're all human papilloma viruses, but different varieties like different sites of infection.

2. Only about 1% of all people who carry HPV strains that cause genital warts ever actually show warts. It is possible you are already infected, but you will never truly know until you get a genital wart.

3. Condoms can only protect the parts of the genitals that are covered. As you know, condoms don't cover your whole crotch, so exposed areas like the scrotum, perineum, anus and inner thighs can still pick up the virus through friction contact.

4. Some protection is better than no protection. I'd recommend adopting safer sex practices (CONDOMS!) just in case.

btw, if she hasn't been vaccinated with Gardasil (the vaccine that prevents HPV) yet, she can still gain some protection from it. It can't cure the HPV she already has, but it can still protect her from other strains.
