I am 38 years old. Diagnosed 7 years ago. I seem to have waves of symptoms over the years. Sometimes I go a long time with no palpitations and then other times I get clusters of palpitations. I have been prescribed a beta blocker to use "as needed" and have been taking them more often lately. I have had a lot of stress this month as both of my parents have had serious heart related events. My mother had a heart attack and my father had bypass surgery, all this month. I was told 7 years ago that it was mild and that if anything was going to end my life it would be something else other than the prolapsed valve. My question is if the palpitations increasing is a sign of a worsening valve?

Let's see. Stress can cause palpitations. You've had both parents hit with heart issues this month. My guess is there could be a connection. Stress being a cause is no less valid than anything else. I suggest you see a doctor and let them decide what to do. Maybe they will do a halter. Maybe they will increase your beta blocker ( it counteracts adrenaline) or maybe they will give you an anti-depressant for a short period to get you over the bumps in the road. See your doctor and tell him/her what is going on.

Good luck with your family.

Perhaps, but is more likely something else, like too much caffeine or not enough sleep. Wouldn't hurt to see your cardiologist, though, just to ease your mind.

They could get worse in time. But if I were you I would seek professional help. A good cardiologist.
