I feel the same way. this, too is my first Thanksgiving as a Vegetarian. I feel unbearably horrible for the turkeys.
Just make yourself feel better that YOU'RE not the one who's participating in this animal cruelty. Don't think about how/when/if they get slaughtered, because you know they do.
But don't worry because we're Saving animals, "One meal at a time" [:
Happy thanksgiving, Darling <3 !

My first thanksgiving as a veg as well, and i cant really say that i am sad about the turkeys, after all, those people would for the most part be eating some other meat on any given day, whats the difference? and its worthless to be sad all the time, isnt it? whats on my mind is the fun of explaining why i am not eating turkey to my family, probably over and over again. But i suppose i will have to buckle down and get it over with.

I'm new to being a vegetarian and this will be my first thanksgiving as a vegetarian as well. I've actually already thought about it and it does make me sad. I've also thought about all the other animals who are killed, abused, and harmed every day so people can eat them and it makes me really sad. I think its so horrible how these animals are treated and how so many people don't even care or fail to acknowledge all the pain that is caused to these animals. The only thing that helps just a little is knowing I've made a good decision to become a vegetarian and not support and take part in eating animals. I hope to one day (after college) be an animal rights activist and eventually work for Peta. The most we can do is promote veganism and vegetarianism and support Peta and other organization that help save animals' lives. Help Raise Awareness. And know that you are doing a great deed being a vegetarian.

The way I deal is look down at my tofu turkey and know that my meal doesn't consist of one..meaning dead turkey or any other animal for that matter. I feel good and take pride in myself for not choosing to contribute to the problem. It makes me happy to know that a turkey (or any other animal) wasn't raised and killed to be eaten by me.
Remember love you can only do so much...just think about the fact that you are making a difference. NOT A SINGLE turkey was raised and killed for you...be proud of that... after all that is a life and death difference .. right.

Well, many vegetarians don't agree with me on this, but the death of any animal to feed another is part of nature, even if not all of it is used.
What you should really be sad about is the lives they lead up to their deaths. Factory farms are atrocious, especially for an animal they want to fatten up in a short time period. For many of these birds, a quick and relatively painless death would probably be a merciful end to a tortured existence...

You have to try not to think about it. I have a very hard time dealing with all the animal abuse and such in this world. I have learned that I have to stay away from reading about it, and watching anything on tv that may show something happening to animals. We can only do so much to help, and not eating them is the best and unfortunatly all we can do. Take comfort in knowing you will not be contributing to their deaths. Good luck.

I'm not vegetarian. Sorry. But to get rid of your "sadness" try raising your own turkey as a sorta pet thing, if you live in the country, that is, my freind who's vegan bought a pig from a slaughterhouse and raised it as pet, it made her happy knowing a very-abused animal is living a happy life =)

it doesn't make me any more sad than all of the meat consumption on any other day . . . I just have to remember that my decisions make a difference and I can't control what other people do.

Collect your tears in a glass and chill it in the fridge to drink later. Why waste all that manganese? It's a hard trace mineral for vegetarians to come by.
*Edit: 1st poster and similar minded: I'm very certain all those sweets and carbohydrates are 1,000x healthier than a balanced omni diet of vegetables, proper fats, meat and fruits with very little sweets and carbs. Uh huh. See you in 80 years.
