I've tried to be a vegetarian years back but I found I couldn't because I adore the taste of chicken. However, I've been really thinking of trying again because I SO need a healthier diet. (and a few weeks back I made my first chicken roast and it really disgusted me when I cleaned it out - sorry to offend anyone!)
Are there many others who've loved a certain type of meat before finally giving it up? If so, how did you do it??
Need some help please :-)

Isn't faux meat kind of expensive though? I can do without beef and pork it's just chicken that's hard for me. Oh and I don't eat any seafood whatsoever.

I knew I would end up offending someone, I'm sorry, I really didn't want to do that. Yes, I love chicken and yes I know it's a dead animal. Like I said when I made a roast, it really grossed me out...
I just wish I knew how to stop liking it so much lol
Thanks for the link.

So there's no one who's loved a certain type of meat before becoming a vegetarian? Because I would love to know how to not crave it anymore...

Morning star makes a really yummy fake chicken patty called a chik patty (I think...not sure, don't have them in the freezer right now). It tastes exactly like chicken. Even when I wasn't a vegetarian I ate them.

Depending on where you go, it's about $3 for a box of 4 patties. cheaper then going to Mcdonalds and getting 4 chicken sandwiches.

There are also chicken flavored boulion cubes you can get. Check the labels of these things though, some contain chicken.

If you're worried about prices, try your hand at making some Seitan, and add chicken boulion to it. Its a long process, but cheap.

I LOVED chicken. The craving is a start of a new diet, one that you aren't used to, that will go away. It took me about 2 weeks to stop wanting meat, and I don't think I would have gotten through it without fake meat. I probably had a sandwich everyday.

When I started I was a little cranky, had some headaches...but within 3 days of not eating meat that was gone. I still craved meat for a little while, but it went away. I actually went to the store last night to get some cheese, and they had meat filled intestines (not even hotdogs) right next to the cheese...I thought I was gonna be sick. And I used to love this type of food.

Keep in mind I've only been a vegetarian for a month, and these cravings have already passed.

Hope that helped a little

Stock up on faux meats. There are some amazing ones out there. Gardenburger Riblets are amazing. Even omnis adore those. Get Health is Wealth or Morningstar Farms buffalo wings, Boca regular or spicy chicken patties, etc.

Edited to add in response: If it's too expensive for you then I guess you're screwed. If you want it badly enough, you'll do it. If you don't, then you won't. Making excuses doesn't help, either.

You get over cravings by getting through them patiently. They go away as long as you don't give into them.

I stopped eating chicken before becoming an actual vegetarian. What did it for me was watching a video of chickens being slaughtered. After that, the thought of having chicken reminded me of what the chickens on the slaughter line go through, so it was pretty easy not to eat it.

Oh, honey, I was you until about six years ago. I used to love that stuff, but as I got older, it didn't love me so much. One day I was eating some wings, and I was so thoroughly disgusted I decided to go vegetarian then and there. There are other factors, of course, but it's that one thing that really pushed me over the edge.

I know they're expensive, but the analogues will help you get over your desire for chicken and make it easier for you to become vegetarian, if that's what you really want. You can always eat them until you get over your desire for flesh and then only have them in moderation or as a treat.

Good luck.

If you only eat the breast of the chicken you won't be eating anything unhealthy, that would alleviate both issues of eating healthy and not giving up chicken.

Faux meats don't taste anything like the meats they're trying to replace. If you do decide to give up chicken don't expect to find something fake that tastes like it.

morningstar makes veggie steak and CHICKEN strips. they are delicious and taste like you are having a real piece of chicken and they look like grillen chicken strips. also boca makes really good burgers and morningstar makes a lot of things from bufffalo chicken nuggets to riblets! so look out for those. you can get all varities of burgers too and tons of soy sausages and hotdogs all different flavours in the produce department!

"adore the taste of chicken"

Really? You know that's a dead animal carcass right? Adore?

Sorry, it's just a strange word to pick to describe it.

There are actually great meat substitutes that replicate chicken....kind of. But you'll just really have to stop eating it if you don't want to eat it. You'll feel good about it if you do.

Maybe watch Meet your Meat or something,

1) Make up your mind what you really want to do
2) Do it
3) If you choose vegetarianism, good for you. More chicken for the rest of us. Thank you for your contribution.
