No, there's probably not enough of a demand for that. Unless you live in a Hippie commune, but then you'd make no money.

If the food is good, the prices are reasonable, and the places look nice, even omnivores will eat at a veg*an fast-food place. There is a European chain called Maoz Vegetarian, which serves Middle Eastern-style food. They have a couple of locations in the U.S. (NYC and Philly, with locations rumored to be opening up in DC). I hope they take over the world!

There's a local vegetarian (mostly vegan) restaurant that serves Korean-inspired dishes, paninis, sandwiches, and wraps. It's in the business district and most of the people who eat there are not vegetarians. There's also a local vegan bakery that recently added sandwiches and mini-entrees to its offerings, and I'm sure they get some good business from nonvegetarians as well.

So if the food is delicious, some omnivores will eat it.

For several years there was a vegan/vegetarian (mainly vegan) fast food restaurant in Nottingham called V1.

It was incredibly successful; at lunch times the queues were out of the door and down the street.

Its best-selling item was the VLT, which included a bacon-flavoured burger, made exclusively for them by Redwoods who make Cheatin' Bacon.

They were opposite MacDonalds, and my sister's young children - non vegetarians who anywhere else would whine for MacDonalds - preferred to go to V1 when visiting me in Nottingham.

Sadly they closed a couple of years ago; I believe the rents and rates for such a central location in the city became too much for them, and I know they were looking to re-open in another location but unfortunately they haven't yet.

So it can be done; V1 was an amazing place. If you've got the cash or the backers, do it!

If you are merely wondering than still read this article. I linked it below for you. Yet even with the best of intentions, you'd have to pick a fantastic location. If you're in the US or UK then college/university towns would be the best option for vegetarian fast food. Remember, though Indian cooking serves many vegetarian dishes already.

I personally think Vegetarian Fast Food American Style is a great idea!

Yeah, it would be possible. Out of sheer boredom, I drew up a menu for a vegan fast food (well, not "fast food," exactly, but soups, wraps, sandwiches and snacks) restaurant. My omnivore boyfriend took one look at the "menu" and got pretty excited about the possibility of opening such a place, which just goes to show that if you've got something delicious and a little different you'd appeal not just to vegetarians. You'd have to pick your market carefully because it might not fly just anywhere (but if you were in Seattle, for example, you'd probably do great!) I don't really have any business advice for you, but you could ask about opening up a restaurant in the business & finance section.

i always get a veggie burger from bk hold the mayo and ketchup. our bk doesnt have a spicy whatever burger someone talked about earlier. i will have to favorite this question. i didnt realize there where so many options for vegetarians at fast food. i usually just go to the local mexican place and get vegetarian fajitas, hold the rice (cause it's made with chicken broth, and hold the sour cream and cheese, double the beans) pretty tasty lol i found it hard though to eat out now that i'm vegetarian because even the "vegetarian" soups have chicken broth in them. hot and sour soup for example that is supposed to be a tofu veggie soup has chx broth!!! ps just because you order french fries doesnt make them "vegetarian-friendly" they are fried in the same exact oil as the chicken and fish (i worked fast food for a few years)

There's one in the lanes in Brighton (UK) called RedVeg, and my, is it wonderful. It's all veggie and vegan, and tastes amazing. Even meaty fans have said it's just as good, if not better, cause of the selection. The red in the name is to do with communism, so there are lots of communist revolutionaries on the walls and stuff. It's a really friendly place with lots to read, which is always good. There should be more!!
Definitely do it, this one is really popular. And make sure you have friendly, interesting staff.
Unfortunately I don't know a great deal about opening a buisness :(

Rain forest cafe.

I've also been to a couple vegan Chinese restaurants where the fake meat had an amazing texture and taste, it almost seemed like the real deal. There's also an Indian
cuisine restaurant downtown that's reasonably cheap.

It can happen, if you have a good business strategy. I recommend watching documentaries on McDonald's, alot of them explain how the business rose to the top.

Go for it.

Anything is possible with enough capital, advertising and know-how. However, 'vegetarian fast food' doesn't sound very healthy... so you might want to rethink your drink there. Most vegetarians are also health conscious.

Restaurants take years to really start turning a profit, so be ready for the long-haul. Otherwise, good luck and I hope it works out for you. :)

I think it is possible. Why wouldn't it? I mean personally as a vegan I would love that if it spanned and became bigger than McDonald's. But do your homework first and how to start a restraunt and everything and it should be a possibility. Good luck with opening your restraunt and i REALLY hope it works out cause i'm sick of only getting salads lol

Move to San Francisco first, then make it fast food that is healthy (vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean healthy). People here would go crazy and you'd be wealthy in no time.
