They often argue that humans don't NEED to eat meat and that there are meat substitutes that are available. They also argue that wild animals (such as the big cats) eat other animals because they have to.
Questions: What would the wild carnivores do if they were given an unending supply of meat substitute such as soy or veggie meats? Do you think they would stop hunting real animals? Would they eat the fake meat?

lizzy----your calling my words pathetic is pathetic. You need to widen your scope as i mean EVERYTHING we do is nature, because we're animals.
You seem to be continually sour like that Jenny. I wouldn't be surprised if your the same person.

I personally hate it when I look online at vegan stores and see a pet section with faux meat for pets. That is just wrong. Cats and dogs are carnivores, not even omni's they will eat veggies, but not on a regular basis). I have yet to encounter a person who thinks wild carnivores can eat meat substitutes. Their stomachs are made for eating raw meat.
Yes I know dog and cat food have vegetable additives in it, but it has real meat in it, not soy. I don't believe an animal that is supposed to be your companion, should be forced into a lifestyle that it naturally wouldn't eat.
And I'm a vegetarian, so you're not getting this answer from a meat eater.

I got a thumbs down for saying pets shouldn't be forced into a vegetarian diet when it's just not natural for them? I seriously wonder what is wrong with some people.

Meat analogs don't mimic the taste of real meat that closely-- they don't fool our cats for a minute-- & certainly don't imitate the taste/smell/texture of uncooked flesh.
Obligate carnivores don't have the dietary options that humans do. A natural carnivore has a much shorter digestive tract than an herbivore (so that the flesh can evacuate quickly before it decomposes), a *much* more acidic stomach, sharp claws & several other physiological differences (don't take my word for this, there are *tons* of books explaining these differences in detail).
Also, I think that the hunt is @ least partially an aspect of a wild carnivore's dining "ritual." How many humans begin salivating @ the sight of a small animal by the roadside, & have a strong compulsion to rip right into the creature & mac it right down on the spot?

Well, the most glaring fact is that the wild animals have no ethical reasoning ability like we do. Anyway to answer your question, I'm sure they would eat the fake meat if it tasted like real meat, and as long as the fake meat was nutritionally similar to real meat, they would probably be healthy (taurine comes to mind, among others. I'm sure a fake meat with artificially synthesized taurine can be designed, if there was a demand for it). But the wild animals would get fat because they need their daily/weekly aerobic workout from hunting down Bambi.
Scavengers are more likely to accept fake meat anyway. Some carnivores may view fake meat as 'dead' and may prefer live prey if it is available.

You know, there is a big difference between a lioness bringing down a gazelle for her pride's dinner and what humans do to animals to turn them into meat. I'm sure you do. You've asked this question many times in your various guises, and you probably won't stop asking until you get the answer you want.
Well, I'm quite happy to disappoint you, and please pick up the hint: there is a big difference. The gazelle had a natural life; the cows/chickens/pigs you eat did not. The gazelle foraged for her food and ate a natural diet; the animals you eat are fattened up with unsuitable diets, hormones, antibiotics, etc. The gazelle was born naturally; the animals you eat are bred and mutilated and crammed into smaller and smaller spaces to increase profit.
Then there is the biological differences between herbivores and carnivores. Our bodies and digestive systems are closer to those of herbivores than carnivores. My cat, a carnivore, spends much of her time sleeping. Many carnivores spend much of their time sleeping because even for an obligate carnivore, digesting meat is exhausting. Herbivores spend much of their time awake.

Oh, Hi! There you are with a different name.
There is no comparison in the diets requirements of humans and animals. The animals would reject the supply of meat substitutes whether it was a short or an unending supply (their intellect doesn't allow them consider amounts in the way that humans do).
It is the animal's nature to be a hunter; therefore, it's hunt, kill, and eat and they will never stop.

It's possible, but I doubt it. Carnivores' bodies are DESIGNED to eat meat. As you well know, human bodies are not. That is why we can live even healthier lives if we eliminate meat from our diet.
Everything about carnivores indicates they were created to eat other animals...the strength of their jaws, the way their jaws move, their teeth, their natural hunting abilities in some cases, their digestive system, the fact that they can eat meat all day long and not get heart disease or colon cancer, etc.
Now, we know that if you trace the source of the proteins and nutrients in animal flesh you will find they come from plants. Herbivores or omnivores eat plants and the nutrients and proteins are absorbed by their body and then a carnivore comes along and eats them and then those nutrients and proteins are absorbed into their bodies (it's interesting to note that carnivores will often go for the intestines where the plant matter is still freshest and the highest concentration of plant proteins are and also to note that carnivores will rarely eat other carnivores because eventually the flesh would become devoid of nutrition because PLANTS are the source of ALL nutrition as Nature intended). So, if we were to replace those proteins and nutrients they were getting from animal flesh in a faux meat food they would probably be ABLE to survive, but they would probably prefer to hunt and kill and eat flesh.
I assume from your posts in this section over the last several weeks that you are not entirely convinced that veganism is the way to go. Have you read The China Study yet? Have you done any research on the physiological reasons man was not meant to eat meat or animal products? Are you aware of the dramatic increase in incidents of disease when someone ingests animal products? I'm just curious if you're only interested in what random people on Yahoo Answers have to say about a strict vegetarian diet or if you are truly curious enough to have done some research on your own.

No. Carnivorous animals would never stop eating meat as they have the natural instinct to.
Since we're humans "everything we do is natural"? That's pathetic. Humans, are only concerned with eating the animal body parts which have been removed and processed, because we grew up eating them. The actual reality of eating meat- the screams of an animal as it is ripped apart and eaten- are repugnant and sickening to humans.

so what are you hiting at? that meat substitutes don't taste good and are an invention of a twisted human mind? and that real nature never invented them, and therefore it's all wrong?
wild carnivores only hunt real meat - to kill and to eat right away. That's the way it was meant to be. Humans made up whole industry of producing meat and poultry, stuffed the produce with chemicals of all sorts.
I am NOT a vegan. I am a lactoovovegetarian, for the simple reason that the idea of eating dead flesh is unappealing to me. For no other. But let me tell you that humans DON'T consume meat the way it is done in nature, which is wrong, and I'd rather have meat substitutes. As for wild animals, they are perfetly right in their eating meat. They do it the way it was all planned to go. I don't have a problem with that.

I am vegetarian for moral reasons and in the past have gone vegan as well as raw vegan for health reasons. This was and is my personal choice.
Unlike some people that come here to bash. I do not impose my beliefs on others that have no interest in them.
If someone wants real info I would be happy to give it. If someone is truly curious and not rude and judgmental I am happy to answer any questions.
Now for your silly question.
I have no clue what animals would do it that situation nobody can know that. We all know it isn't going to happen so what's the point of the question?
Tell me if no meat was available to you but you had an unending supply of substitutes what would you do?
