Cold sores ARE herpes. Cold sores are also called fever blisters and oral herpes. They are all the same thing. Cold sores ARE contagious and are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Usually herpes simplex virus 1 is responsible for them, but they can also be caused by herpes simplex virus 2 (which is usually the cause of genital herpes). Cold sores almost always appear on the OUTSIDE of a persons mouth.

Canker sores are NOT herpes. They are basically ulcers which are usually found INSIDE the mouth. They are NOT contagious and are usually caused by stress, allergies, accidentally biting the inside of your mouth or tongue, etc. They can appear on the inside of the lips, on the gums, the cheeks, tongue, etc.

cold sores , herpes, chicken pox and shingles are ALL caused by the same virus, just different strains. Think of it this way, genital herpes are not caused by the same strain as cold sores or chicken pox. So if what you have is a cold sore, then you do not have herpes. However it is possible to get sores in or around the mouth from giving oral sex to someone who has genital herpes. What you are describing, however sounds like a chancre sore, or ulcer. If its inside your mouth, and looks white, then you probobly have an ulcer. I used to get them as a kid, but you can get them from eating or drinking acidic things. My grandmas home remedy worked for this everytime. I know it sound weird, but if you pour salt on it, and hold it there for a minute, then rinse it out with water it will go away. The salt will sting at first, but after you rinse it out the pain will go away and the sore will feel better and heal faster. If you get a tingling feeling before you actually get the sore, that is usually a symptom of the bad kind of cold sore AKA herpes. In any event, I reccommend having yourself tested just for your own peace of mind.

i think what u mean is a kanker sore if its inside your mouth. the first answer has a good solution to help those. cold sores mostly happen on the outside of your mouth. u ablolutly can get genital herpes through oral herpes. it can be transmitted though oral sex while someone has a cold sore on their mouth. i was diagnosed with herpe type 2 but i also get cold sores. sorry to say but i think cold sores = herpes.
