I've heard this but I don't know if it's true. I asked my doctor and he was unclear; just giving me statistics.

It's not genital warts...it's the other type of HPV. I'm not an idiot...of course I told my boyfriend...I've been with him for 4 years. I found out 4 years ago, but I'm in law school and I don't have insurrance right now to go to the doctor. I don't feel comfortable going to the clinic...I heard some horror stories about them. Thanks for everyones answers...

There is NO "cure" for HPV because it is a virus, however, most women are able to get rid of the virus on their own. Their bodies can basically "fight it off" and get rid of it.

When most people think of a "cure" they think of getting rid of something with drugs, therapy, natural remedies, etc. So, since there are no drugs or therapy to actually rid the virus from the body then there is technically no "cure".

Since HPV is a virus though, and there are no cures for viruses, some people will have the virus their entire life and are unable to get rid of it. And, just because a person might have gotten rid of the virus doesn't mean they can't contract it again in the future. They can always contract the virus again if they have sex with someone who has it or they come in DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area of someone who has it.

most people will clear their hpv infection in the first few years, though many others will go on the develop warts or cervical dysplasia. if you stay on top of your pap smears every year, you will be unlikely to get cancer as it will be caught in the dysplasia stage. dont let them put you on the every 3 yr pap program until your hpv has been negative for a few years in a row at least. if your doc is willing to give you a pap every year I would do it, you just never know if hpv is truly gone or just hiding out for a while. as far as telling your partners, it is actually unnecessary unless you have cervical cancer cause then you may have an aggressive virus strain. Pretty much 80% of people who have sex will get infected with hpv at some point, so he probably already had it unless he was a virgin when you two had sex. hpv is really not such a big deal as everyone wants to think these days. I mean, really now- just 5 yrs ago nobody cared but now we have a test available so hpv is sooo scary now, right? It was here 5 yrs ago and everyone had it then too, I dont see why everybody is so freaked out all of a sudden.

Does Hpv Go Away

HPV is not only warts. There are so many different strands of HPV. It does have a tendency to go away on its own depending on how serious your case is. The more high risk strands might go away but it will take time. If you are 26 or younger you can get the Gardisil shot and that will help your chances of getting it cleared or protecting you from certain strands. Gardisil does not protect you from all of the HPV strands but it does for some of them.

I actually know someone on a personal level who has had it. Hmm... let me rephrase that, I know 2 people who had it at one point in time. One was a female and one was a male. My female friend was treated for it and actually had to have a part of her cervix removed but no longer has it. The male I know has it currently and uses a cream to keep the genital breakouts away but lives with it daily. From what he told me about it it can go away through treatment I think in 1-2 yrs on a man and through treatment on a female it can take up to 3 yrs. But since it's still a newer STD I still have my doubts on whether u can carry afterwards or not.

No it does not. You can get treated for it but it will always will stay in your system ususally dormant. There is a new drug out for young girls between the ages of 13 and 28, I forget what it's called but it's for BEFORE not AFTER being infected. Both of my daughters have HPV and they have been told that they should be checked yearly, as HPV can cause sterility and cervical cancer in young women, My girls are 27 & 28 and have not had children yet. Hope this helps!!!

No it technically never goes away. How do you know you got it, did you get an abnormal pap? I did and then had a biposy then had surgery because mine was precancerous. If yours didn't go that far, my dr. said that no matter what I'll still have it, just like Chicken Pox. Your body just builds an immune to it. It may show its self time and again. No way to tell just keep getting your annual with NO fail!
