I had one abnormal pap test in jan 2006 and in july? 2006 was told i had genital warts...
Is one abnormal pap going to have my drs write down that i have HPV in my records?
I should be getting my yearly pap test done in a month, but because of the dumb pharmacy i go to it will not do a 12 refill perscription they only do a 6. So i had my dr call another script in...and its good for another 6 months. I dont think they even looked to see when my pap test was due!?
Should I be having them more often than once a year?
My pap in july-06 was good, and the one in dec-06 was fine too.

Abnormal pap smears can be caused by a number of different things - not just HPV.

But, being diagnosed with genital warts means you HAVE HPV. All warts, including genital warts, are caused by HPV.

If you have had an abnormal pap smear then you should be getting a pap smear at least every 3 or 4 months until you have had a few normal pap smears. Then, you need to go about every 6 months until you have had a few more normal pap smears. After that, as long as you have had several normal pap smears, you can usually go back to every year. Definitely talk to your doctor about this though!

Good luck!

One abnormal pap does not mean HPV, but being diagnosed with genital warts DOES. The viruses that cause warts do not cause cervical cancer, but that does not mean that you shouldn't start getting pap smears every 6 months or a year, depending on what your doctor says. You could be infected with cancer-causing strains, which doesn't mean you are going to get cancer, just that you might have to get pap smears a little more often.

It sounds like HPV to me. Once you get 3 good paps in a row they will "clear" you from having to have them every 3-6 months, and you can go once a year.
