I had my blood drawn to check all my vitamins and mineral levels in my blood.... I just wanted to be sure I was gettting everything I needed in my diet. She looked them over...and said everything was fine. All my vitamin and mineral levels were where they should be. THEN I told her I was a vegetarian and I was happy that I was getting everything(vitamins) I needed. ONLY then did she say I should be taking a multivitamin supplement. What gives? I don't think I should take one..after all I'm getting everything I should from food. I don't see the point? Do you think she is just misinformed about being a vegetarian/all veggies should take a vitamin since you can't get everything from veggie food in adaquate amounts. I've been a vegetarian for at least 7 years and haven't ever thought about taking a vitamin once. I'm good. What is you opinion on this?

Your medical professional wouldn't be competent to inform simply by means of looking when you've got or have now not been fingered. The one evidence there should be to that extent is the bodily fluids released in the course of feminine ejaculation. As long as those fluids aren't present on the time of the examination, you must be good enough. If you are under the age of sixteen, the surgeon would normally tell your mother and father about any sexual exercise. Over that age, the surgeon will almost always just expect that you simply and your mother or father have talked about it and it's already identified. This would result in other problems though. Your health care provider might make a common announcement about your sexual undertaking in front of your father or mother(s) after which you can be caught. However no, they is not going to be ready to tell you probably have been fingered. They are going to ask you in case you are sexually active, and for those who say sure, they in most cases let you know about condoms. They don't make it a factor to inform your dad and mom or lecture you about it they only need to promote healthy life. Preserve in mind that if the health care professional is quite shut with you and your loved ones it might play a function in whether or not they inform your mothers and fathers. If the health care provider is as an alternative almost your household, probably you should hold your enterprise to your self.

First of all I'm not a vegetarian nor would I want to be. Having said that I don't know why some people think that being a vegetarian you are not going to get proper nutrition. You can have meat eaters that don't get the nutrition they need and I'm sure it's the same with vegetarians. You can eat healthy either way.
P.S. I don't take them either. I have them but half the time I forget all about it.

Multivitamins can never be harmful.
However, considering that you've been a vegetarian for 7 years and after 7 years your blood test came out saying 'healthy', I'd say you don't really need multivitamin supplement... also considering it all came out normal and that it was after you told her you were a vegetarian that she recommended you the multivitamin supplement...

If your bloodwork checks out OK, then there's really no reason to supplement. I think most people can benefit from a multivitamin because we don't always eat ideally every day. But you've got some objective proof that you're doing just fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Based on my own experience( I was a vegetarian at one point in my life.) I can certainly understand your doctor's point of view. For instance, there are certain proteins, amino acids, and heme iron, that come from lean red meats. If you arent eating meat...chances are you arent getting these in your body. Now, Im not saying you should eat meat, but I am saying that there are probably other nutrients that your body may need that you may not be getting. My suggestion to you is to probe your doc some more, and maybe ask for some good recommendations for which supplements to get. Multi-vitamins arent harmful. If anything they will make you more likely to fight off illness. It is never too late to start taking a vitamin supplement. Inquire too, about possibly taking a natural chidrens supplement, where the vitamin levels arent so concentrated to lessen the risk of overdosing on certain vitamins like a & d which are fat soluable.

I would guess your doctor is simply being overcautious. If you eat the way you're supposed to, you don't need a vitamin, according to just about any nutritionist, and the American Dietetics Association. They should know.

It does seem weird that she said told you to take the multi after you informed her you were a vegetarian. I would have asked her right then why she wanted me to take the multi.

My opinion is to ask her why. If she isn't telling you exactly what she's treating with each of her medical recommendations, she's not doing her job properly.
