Did he have the xray when he felt something was in his throat? If not, he could be having allergies to something that temporarily swells the passageways. This could get more serious, so be sure to follow up on it.

I would imagine that an xray would show an enlarged thyroid and stuff, but he is certainly entitled to a second opinion (and blood test). If he is having trouble breathing, ask for a referal to a specialist if the doc says nothing's wrong. Obviously something is wrong and doctors can't really mess around with breathing problems.

(Asthma isn't necessarily wheezing...it can also be a shortness of breath...he can ask for a breathing test.)

Hard to breath, xray is clear, Hx of asthma, no wheezes, feel like something in his throat.

Hey, why don't you try getting a referral to a pulmonary doctor?
If you are having an allergic reaction to something, he can help alleviate it.

There's a need for more information, like how old is this guy? Smoking history? Heart problems? Chronic breathing problems? Allergy problems that affect breathing [like this case, uh DuH! ]

Pulmonary doctors can ferret out these questions and get to the bottom of it.

does your friend smoke? does your friend have allergies? has your friend seen a specialist? suggest your friend isn't giving enough information here to get a reasonable answer.
