I'm a vegetarian and I'm about to start a raw food diet. My question is I heard that diary was bad for you, but what if it is non pasterurized milk. Should I still not drink it. If not Please explain. This whole thing is making me confused. I want to be healthy and if drinking milk weather it's pasteurized or non pasteurized. Is not gonna benefit me then I'm done with it.

Do vegetarians eat dairy? I don't know the rules.

The difference between pastuerized or not milk is just a heating process to kill bacteria. If does not change the nutritional value noticeably. Non-pastuerized milk is pretty hard to come by. I think in the US it is illegal to sell it commercially.

Is milk bad for you? I think that is a relative thing. Non-fat milk seems pretty harmless to me, but some folks may disagree. I don't think you need to have a lot of milk in the diet, but I wouldn't give up cheese unless you have a gun pointed at me.

Dairy is not bad for you. Neither is food that is cooked. Many nutrients are actually released from foods upon heating, and are more bioavailable that if eaten raw.

If you can find a dairy farmer willing to sell you non-pasteurized milk direct, go for it, but realize you'll be buying it daily, or at most, every other day. It won't last long in the fridge.

Milk is very good for you. Along with honey they are the only substances created for the sole purpose of being food.
If you are going on a raw diet then unpasteurized is the way.

The best is raw fresh and clean straight from the farmer.

Pasteurizing is bad for milk and bad for you.
Check out the laws for raw milk in your state.

Well not long ago, everyone that consumed milk used unpasteurized. Why? Because it was local and fresh from the cow. Dairy was not a huge business, it was very local; sometimes as close as your own cow. There were no refrigerators, and then after that, only ice boxes. Fresh milk doesn't keep too long.

Then came along a new nation called capitalism. This is where everything revolves around money. People are no longer people, they are numbers, statistics. "How do we get as much milk as possible to as many people as possible -- it keeps going bad during transport". "Well, boil it." "But then it won't taste good and that will kill all the goodness of it (enzymes) and make people sick." "Who cares, we'll boil it all and they'll have no choice." "How will we muscle out the local businesses?" "Legislation. We'll make it illegal to sell unpasteurized milk, and we'll muscle their business. They'll either have to join us, sell us their milk, or get stomped on by us." "Hey, great idea!"

And so it began... the mass production of milk. Keeping them pregnant to produce milk was not enough, so they found a way to fool their body into thinking it was pregnant with hormones. More hormones, more milk. The cows were bursting with milk. Money rolled in. People were consuming more milk than water pretty soon. But they were getting sick due to lack of nutrients in their diet, so the government forced milk to have added vitamins to it (the white flour too, for people where getting sick from white flour -- i.e. mass produced wonder bread).

Humans are mammals, and no mammal consumes milk after they stop taking milk from its mother. Only weirdo humans do, but they do not consume human milk, they do something that nature never intended, consuming the milk of other animals. Just imagine sucking the nipples of a cow? Disgusting? Okay, don't worry, we'll put it a cup for you. Better yet, we'll make sure you grow up in the city or suburbs and never see a real cow in your life, and when you do, it will be a very happy cow on TV saying, "Please drink my milk!"

There are billions of people in Asia that never consume diary in their whole life. Why? Because it never occurred to them. Most will say, "What? Milk is for babies." Somehow they know this, yet we in the West do not.

Lactose intolerance? That is a term created by the dairy industry to describe the totally natural inability of a grown human to digest milk. After a child has stopped consuming mother's milk, it will never need it again, so the production of the enzyme that breaks down the milk slowly stops, thus, never again would they be able to properly digest milk. But the diary industry wants to convince you that you have a problem; that you are defective. See, if you continue to consume milk, and stimulate the production of that enzyme, you will be able to consume dairy. But, as many have experienced as they grow older, they consume less dairy. The enzyme production slows. Then one day they have a large glass of milk, some cake, ice-cream, and ooooh, man, I feel sick... ooooh, I'd better go to the doctor. Doctor says, "You are lactose intolerant, take these pills." You do, and they work for awhile, but pretty soon you need a whole bottle just to drink one glass of milk. This is because since you are getting the enzyme in a pill, your body says, 'hey, we don't need to produce it anymore, and stops.' The pills help you to become even more intolerant. Seen it happen to people I know. My wife is from China, and when moved to N. America started consuming large quantities of dairy; never had it before. Was fine for the first couple years. She got very overweight, then after about two years she became more and more sick when she consumed dairy. Then onto the pills, then they didn't work anymore, then she decided to just stop altogether again, like before she came to N. America thinking that if you need to take pills to eat something, then it must not be a very natural thing. She was correct.

No way. Milk is milk. It's for calves. You are not a baby cow.

Good luck on being raw. It gets tough sometimes but you'll feel wonderful.
