I am a big fan of tofu. I buy the Firm type from Whole Foods (it has more calcium than the Extra Firm), drain the package, freeze it, then defrost, and press for at least 45 minutes before I cook. You can store tofu in the freezer and defrost in the fridge. The freezing and pressing gives the tofu a firmer, chewier texture.

Also try tempeh, a nutty chewy cake made of fermented soybeans. Marinate it for about half an hour before grilling or pan-frying. You can use it in stir-fries. You can also crumble tempeh into chili recipes.

Tofu is great for health. And yes, heaps of protein in it. It works best with oriental curries and stir-frys. If you wondering about the taste....I can say it is a bit similar to egg white without salt or any condiments added to it. I can't think of anything else that can be compared with the taste of tofu. Hope other people answering hear can help too...lol

I love Tofu! Soy Bean products are great. But taste nothing like a good steak.

Tofu can be prepared many different ways.

If you want the nutrition from tofu, you can try other soy bean products. Edename, (soy beans), Miso soup with tofu (miso is made from tofu).
Also many people don't even know that vegetable oil is actually soy bean oil =)

Try garden burgers, grill it in a pan with butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder. Add provolone cheese, let it melt on top. Add what ever sandwich toppings you like avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.

I love tofu and it's great for vegetarians. When I was a vegetarian I used to put in everything. I would make stir fry and cut up the tofu in little peaces and season the veggies very well and stir fry them. You can also make chili and instead of meat add tofu. but out of everything I like it most in smoothies. I would just make my favorite smoothie (strawberries, yogurt, bananas and orange juice) and add tofu then blend it until smooth.

Scrambled tofu. 5oz (125g) firm tofu. Tumeric. Drain the tofu and mash it. Fry it in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, turning frequently. Add pepper and a good pinch of tumeric. Fry a bit longer and serve on toast.

Tofu is low in calories, cholesterol-free and a good source of protein but it hasn't much flavor on its own. When using tofu as an ingredient understand that it isn't going to help make your meal taste better but instead will absorb whatever flavors it is prepared with. Its sort of like white milk and chocolate milk ... milk is ok on its own but when you mix in chocolate syrup the milk absorbs the chocolate.

Yes.

Tofu is kind of like a sponge. It takes on the taste of whatever you put on it. Soft tofu can be blended into drinks and sauces and stuff. Firm and extra firm tofus are good for cutting & seasoning and using in recipes or baking. Most unprepared tofus are not very good. They're just kind of bland and..nothing-y.

As unhealthy as it is, my favorite tofu is deep fried & in chinese food.

I eat it all the time.

Naturally it's relatively tasteless, which means it soaks up whatever seasonings and sauces you cook with it..

It's nice if you drain it well, cut it into cubes, and put it in a bowl with soysauce and ginger powder. Stir gently so all tofu gets exposed to the sauce... Let sit for a few minutes.. then lightly "fry" with a small amount of oil in a non-stick pan.. Add to your stir fry!! YUM!!

I LOVE tofu! The neat thing about it is that it pretty much tastes like whatever you are cooking it with. So if you are making like a hot and sour soup with it then it seems to absorb the spices, etc from the soup.

Delicious!

You haven't tried tofu?
That's just as odd as my wife's co-worker who has never tried an avocado.

Tofu tastes like what it is... hardened soymilk.
Buy some and try it. Fry it up with some garlic, oil, soy sauce, and whatever else you like to eat.
