I'm trying to dissuade my roommate from smoking, and she's got a godawful cough... it keeps me up at night. Anyway, she thinks it's just something going around because we live in the dorms and it's November, but I think it's smoker's cough.

She said she's smoked about 35 cigarettes ever, and I believe her because she did say a while ago that she was excited to start smoking.

So, could it be smoker's cough?

The box on her desk says Kool, extra long and filtered.

Supposing that she stops smoking (which is unlikely), how long would it take for her cough to go away?

Having smoked for 6 years and never getting smokers cough, I'll have to say it differs between everyone. I doubt I'll ever get it, yet I know people who've gotten it after a few days, a few weeks, a few months, etc. Smokers cough doesn't usually persist though.

I definitely don't smoke because hey I'm a kid! But I know it can cause cancer, you stink, and you probably start coughing cause all the smoke. I have a cough at the beginning of school years and smoke just makes it worse so..... I don't know a whole lot about the subject but I guess it could be that because it effects some people differently then others I believe.

first of all, i am not a smoker, but when i go to parties with people who are smoking, i will start to cough just from that. I dont think it takes long at all to develop problems from smoking

usually when people start smoking it takes them a while to get used to puting smoke down their throat. I would suggest that if your going to start smoking anything it be marijuana. It just has more benifits with the same or less consiquences. any way a "smokers cough" traditionionaly means a deep chest cough that comes from all the tar build up in the lungs.

I honestly doubt it. I've been smoking for a year and I haven't gotten it yet.

Yeah it could. I smoke, I know shame on me, but about 40 maybe a lil more and I have a small one. It depends what kind she smokes, some are worse for you than others but she might have one.

All lungs are different.

It takes most people awhile to get their bodies used to inhaling cigarettes. I would guess her cough is more of a warning cough, like "Hey, cut it out."
