My roommate just got Herpes (and no, I'm not referring to myself, it really is my roommate lol). And I remember hearing a possible myth that you can get the STD from using the same toliet seat as those who are infected. Is that true? If so, what can I do to prevent getting it?

Yes toilet seats can pass STDs, that's why a lot of public toilets have those disposable paper toilet covers that you lay down before sitting on the toilet seat. Always line the toilet seat with paper whether those that are made specifically for toilets or just plain toilet paper.

No, you can't. There has never ever been a documented case of someone catching herpes form a toilet seat.

1)One in three women have genital herpes by middle age - one in four in the general population. So think how many times you use the toilet after someone with genital herpes.

2)The herpes virus is actually very fragile. It only survives for a few seconds outside the body and would need to survive in sufficient quantities to infect you , which is highly unlikely.

Also, it would involve a sore on your roommate coming into contact with the toilet seat (unlikely in itself given where they normally occur) and a vulnerable part of your genital anatomy for example labia/penis coming into contact with that exact spot on the toilet seat within 30 seconds, a minute max. Estimates for the survival of the virus have ranged from only 12 seconds to a couple of mins at the very outside on a friendly surface (warm, moist) most studies show less than 30 seconds. Not very likely. A toilet seat it a very hostile environment for the herpes virus. Unless you are having genital to genital sex with your roommate I wouldn't be worried at all.

At college, long before I caught herpes, my friend's roommate caught it and they had the same worries as you. Needless to say neither she nor any of the other girls who shared the flat and used the same toilet caught it. Hell, even if you are having unprotected sex several times a week with someone with hepres, the odds of catching it are only 10% a year. The hepres virus is dormant for the vast majority of the time and cannot infect another person in its dormant stage.

The ONLY thing you can get from a toilet seat is crabs.

Be supportive to your roommate. They probably need this very much.

My best friend has had genital herpes for about eight months now, and it's been really rough. She's had about 7 outbreaks. Everywhere I read it says it stops flaring up so much after time, but its not getting less frequent for her. She's been on Antiviral meds the whole time, too. She also has type 1 diabetes which she has had her whole life, which really weakens her immune system. Will it ever get better?

But after a friend share this video everything has changed.

That is 100% NOT true.

It is purely a Sexually Transmitted Disease, hence the name an STD.

But there are other ways of getting it, that people don't think of...
One way is for some chance you use a razor that somebody else used (down there) and they have herpes.

OR

If somebody perfomrs oral sex on you with a fever blister (a form of herpes) and it will turn into genital herpes.

Just be safe.
Don't be stupid.

And know the background on anybody you chose to have sex with. Make a deal and get checked together, if your going to do something as personal as having sex, you have the right to know if they are infected.

I have never heard of anyone getting herpes from a toilet seat..

Crabs yes ,,,,,, but, there have been no proven cases of herpes. The genital herpes virus is a fragile virus that dries out when it is exposed to air.

You can get genital herpes if someone has a cold sore and gives you oral sex. If you can't get it from a toilet seat though. It's only if you have direct contact with the person who has the virus. You can even get it on your skin if you touch someone who has herpes since it is a virus. You might want to put a toilet seat liner so you don't sit on the toilet itself because you can get hepatitis, crabs, and other things.

The only way that would happen is if your roommate had an open wound and sat on the toilet within seconds of someone who was infected. Highly unlikely, the disease dies within 10 to 15 seconds of hitting a toilet seats. However, herpes is spread often through hotel linens, towels at the gym, and in hot tubs. The disease lives longer in fabrics and in extremely warm water.

You cannot get herpes from a toilet seat, only from sexual contact with a person who has the open sores of herpes.

I genuinely have 3 boys (twins, 8, and four), 4 in case you comprise my husband. I potty knowledgeable them so as that they discovered to sit down down. i attempted to get them to flow status up, yet i replaced into actually wiping the ceiling! I in simple terms saved them sitting at abode. they are in a place to stand while they're someplace with a urinal. I do have those flushable bathing room cleaners for the cases that they desire to stand and for while the 4-year-previous pushes his bladder shrink and is not any longer waiting to make it to the bathing room. i've got taught them the thank you to wipe the seat and the floor around the lavatory. in case you get those, make confident they understand to in basic terms use it for injuries and to no longer use the comparable wipe on the sink handles after wiping the lavatory. I went for the duration of the 1st kit in decrease than an afternoon and the bathing room replaced into fairly sparkling.
