I was turning thirty three and I am a mother and have had gestation diabetes while being pregnant, so I knew what I probably was experiencing was because of ,or something to do with Diabetes. I was real tired, too tired for my age, I slept alot, I would find myself not wanting to get up from a nap on the couch, even though I had to take care of my kids, it worried me, it was like I was unconscious. I had to pee alot, I was gaining weight. I felt hot all the time. I noticed that things that had not hurt me before, such as my teeth or my wrists, were starting to hurt. I hardly felt it when I got a sore, or a scrape, sometimes I thought, I could not feel pain on my hands and feet any more. These were my signs. I went to doctor out of fear, but I told the doctor I just needed a physical. I did not want him to draw a conclusion on my thoughts only, I wanted him to notice everything. I was 470 in the office that day when they tested my blood and he immediately put me on medicine.

I started feeling sick all the time about 3 months before I was formally diagnosed with diabetes. I'm type 1, insulin dependent and have been since day one.

I basically got tired of being run down, losing weight, sleeping constantly, eating everything in sight, drinking enough water to drown a camel...just all around feeling like crap.

I went to my doctor and told him to find out what was wrong with me. He listened to my symptoms and ordered a glucose tolerance test. Needless to say...well, I didn't even finish the test. My sugar went so high within 45 minutes after drinking the glucose drink (over 700), they had to stop the test (done at my doctor's office) and immediately admit me to the hospital. That was more than 12 years ago.

don't be nervous about the test. If you have diabetes, it is best to know as soon as possible. 44 years ago, when I was 12, I read a pamphet about the symptoms. It seemed I had them all, and I was right. I couldn't get enough to drink. It was a real deep burning thirst. I don't remember being tired, but I was quite young.
