my local recycling drop off places have a spot for #1 & #2 plastics and like everyone else in the world i use alot of plastics, I would like to know what im using that I can put in those bins. so if someone has a list of what #1 & #2 plastics are I would really appreciate it! thanks!

1 is Polyethylene terephthalate (PETE or PET)
2 is High density polyethylene (HDPE)

Yes, check the bottom of the jar and look in the triangle. Bottles that I regularly recycle with the #1 printed on them are:pop bottles, my coffee creamer bottles, liquid dishsoap bottles, peanut butter jar, jar holding spagetti...

#2 plastics include: milk jugs, liquid laundry detergent bottles, chocholate syrup bottle (though that would go in COLORED #2 if there was a seperate bin for it).. those 5 gallon buckets are #2's as well.

You just need to start finding the triangle.. pretty soon you'll just remember what thing's are 1 and 2 plastics :)

The best way to tell what type of plastics you have would be to look at the bottom of the containers.

You'll see a triangular symbol that consists of three arrows. In the center of the triangular symbol will be the number you're looking for.
