Yes-it's crazy. It may take some getting used to but once you do, it will takes minutes to put together a much better lunch for waaay less. Ask your parents to help you get started if you have trouble thinking of things.
One good idea-freeze small botles of juice or water, place in with lunch-keeps your food cold and thaws to drink by lunchtime.

at least you have had (always) $3 a day and $5 a week. here's what you do, before going to school make it a point that you gonna eat your breakfast, wake up early so you have time for your happy breakfast. So, when it's already lunch time the food that caused $3 will really makes your tummy satisfied. Didn't you think that maybe the reason why your parents gave you only $3 bec. there is still more important for the money that they are saving. It's kinda cost cutting, but i think it's in good faith. Be happy, of whatever you have and you had. There's a lot of people outside that never had a chance of having $3 not even $1 in their hands. Be thankful to GOD. alright. :) God bless.

also in highschool.
and we dont get the sandwiches all the time. sometimes theyre there. sometimes theres salad. sometimes pasta, or something else... "good" (or as close as school food can get). but what they ALWAYS have is the same ol pizza, cheese sticks, burritos, cookies & candy and all kinds of other stuffs thats just baaad for you.
its a little more of a PITA to make your food at home but i say do it. save yourself a lotta money over the course of a quarter or semester. and healthier too.

You could do a heck of allot better cost wise & nutritionally by "Brown Bagging" it. It would take some thought & a little bit of planning.
You might also consider 1 of the insulated new bags.
Here's a site to jump start you on doning your own.

Yes, crazy. I'd never eat at school. Yuck.
Make your own lunch. For $3 you can get, what, pack of spaghetti and sauce and stuff yourself.

wow, what a rip off, I only pay for my son's school lunch because it is cost effective, I could not provide the same balanced meal for such a cheap price, but if I was getting ripped off like you are I dang sure would pack his lunch every day!

I'd pack a lunch. That's what most schools charge teachers.

Yes because I'm paying $0.6 for a canteen lunch but then again I'm living in China and the cost of living is different here.

You could fix yourself a better and healthier lunch and take fat reduced milk in a thermos.
