No cramps, but diarrhea is an occasional side effect of those pills.

That is a very common side effect of this medicine. Most doctors titrate the med up to maximum needed dosage.
Most doctors also will say to take it with the first bite of food and only take it at meal times. This way you don't get the cramps as badly.
Get a bottle of Pepto to take with it or some other anti diarrhea medicine.
Metformin is a systemic drug. It requires several weeks to become fully effective in your system.
Try not to give up on this med!! You might ask your doc if you can cut the tablet in half and slowly build up the amount you are taking to his full dosage. That is if it is the regular Metformin. If it is the extended release form, you cannot cut it in half.

yea, as soon as the cramps come, head straight straight for the toilet, instant diarrhea, used to get it all the time when i 1st started taking it, for about a month ,3 months on i'm now on 1500mg a day n i find that it only happens a couple times a week, also depends on what i've just eaten, not sure why cos i can eat the same thing everyday n yet i'll be fine, go to eat it again the next time, n it hits me. just weird.
it will get better the longer u take it

YES!!! When the doctor first put me on Metformin I was taking two 500 mg. tablets twice a day and I had diarrhea all the time. I called her and she cut it back to one 500 mg. tablet twice a day, and I don't have the diarrhea any longer.

Occassionally some stomach cramps but I just attributed it to something I may have eaten and yes to the diarrhea part of the question, but not too often. If you are concerned, you may feel better if you contacted your physican or even asked your pharmasist about this. You may be relieved just talking to either of them.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/IClGp
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

Yes, I had terrible problems in the beginning but I slowly adjusted to it. I was eventually on 3000 mg a day and had no stomach problems but still had extremely high blood sugar. (That's when I switched to insulin)
