I was diagnosed with HPV-the type that can become cervical cancer. I had my precancer cut out but what about if you get pregnant? Can you pass this on to your child if you don't have a C-section? Also I have heard that this can also cause anal cancer and vocal cord cancer. Has anyone heard this or have any more information on this?

Well I heard about the anal cancer from Dr. Drew on talk sex with Sue...and then I heard about the vocal cord thing on my local news. A older man couldn't hardly talk because he had tumors on his vocal cords and the doctor said it was caused by the same virus that causes cervical cancer in women.

HPV is RARELY spread to a baby during birth. This only happens when the mother is currently having an outbreak of genital warts and the baby comes into contact with them as it is coming through the birth canal. It is very RARE for this to happen and if it is a concern a C-section delivery can be preformed which would completely eliminate the risk of spreading HPV to the newborn. A baby that is exposed to HPV very rarely develops warts in the throat or voice box.

HPV can also cause anal cancer, but again, this is rare.

The main concern with HPV is the cervical cancer it can cause for women. 10,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer last year in the US alone. Of those 10,000 women, about 4,000 of them will die from their cervical cancer.

Take care!

There is a very small risk of transmission from the infected mother to her baby during the delivery but this is very rare. In some people and certain types of HPV can cause anal cancer and oral cancers, these are also rarer than genital warts and cervical cancer

You can not pass HPV via birthing to yourt child.
Majority of HPV cervical infections does resolve spontaneously on its own within 3 years. That is all without any treatments!!!!
All the other rare complications you spoek of are rare and are mainly in the HIV or other immunosuppressed populations.

You won't pass it to your baby, so don't worry. 85% of the population has HPV. I haven't heard about it causing anything but cervical cancer... I would talk to your doc... or go to WebMd.com
