Why do people smoke when they know that it increases their chance of lung cancer?
Why do people over eat when they know that obesity increases the odds of many different diseases?
Why do people drink alcohol when they know that alcohol consumption (at least over consumption) leads to many different diseases?
Why do people do herion, cocaine, or other hard drugs when they know that it can lead to addiction and could also lead to disease?
Why do people drive without seatbelts on when they know that in a crash their odds of survival are a lot less with a seatbelt on?
I could go on and on with questions like these. People will take chances with certain parts of their lives. I think that a lot of them live under the idea that the threat will never come true. For many people, that is true. It is possible for a person to make all sorts of abuses and live to a ripe, healthy, old age.
Another possibility is that people know that no matter what they do, they are going to die. They are not going to eliminate everything that pleases them in the hopes that their lives will be extended. I doubt that you have eliminated everything from your life that could possibly shorten it.

I want to first make it clear that I am not advocating an opinion in any way about this "career". In regards to your question, I think people generally do not realize that many prostitutes do view what they do as a valid job. Therefore, many will not risk disease (within what is under their control) for themselves or they lose this job. Also, who says that the people seeking prostitutes do not already have something themselves that makes the decision easier for them? Another thing, sex can become an addiction just like anything else. People risk everything for drugs, alcohol, careers.... why not sex?

You are thinking of a prostitute you pick up off the street, but there are other kinds. Yes, the ones walking the streets are probably more likely to have AIDS, the ones that do it for drug money, but the ones that are doing it for money are less likley to have it, simply because they won't just sleep with anyone, they will charge $400 for sex, where the poor guy that might have AIDS can't afford her. Its the $20 prostitutes you have to wonder about, they are doing it for drug money. The others are doing it for a living. The $400 ones will make sure the guys uses a condom, and probably super thick ones at that. The $20 ones probably don't care if you use one or not.

fun. and like the old joke; you aren't paying for the sex, you are paying to have them leave and never call you.

I think these men are so desparate (obviously by them paying for sex in itself is desparate) that they don't think about these things... i for one can't understand it either especially the fact that she mighta been with like 5 other guys that same night. its disgusting.. of course the risk of STDs or AIDS too!! i agree
