Have you read Atkins Diabetes Revolution? or South Beach diets? or the Zone Diet? or even Dr Bernstein's Diet?
All of the above have some really good suggestions on how to control glucose and loose weight if needed.
I do not use nor do I think weight loss suppliments are a good thing. They are only for lightening your pocket!! As I am sure you have found out by now.
Personally I use the South Beach phase 2 food plan. You can adjust it to fit yourself, but portion control and low carb is the best way to do all of the weight loss stuff. Added benefit is the blood glucose control you will gain from the low carb lifestyle!

I am a diabetic , have been for some time. Nothing worked for me, and I was on 2 different meds, every day. I was a wreck. The only thing that has worked for me is pretty radical , but here it goes. I still take 1 -oral med per day and always test at least twice a day. I am a total vegatarian. No meat, no milk products, no chocolate, no coffee, no prosecessed anything. No fats, or anything fried in oil or fat. I eat alot of tofu, I can eat eggs, in moderation, and the biggie, No sugar of any kind. I drink all kinds of herbal teas. Great cold too. Good Luck, This worked for me lost, 75 pounds, just like that, and have never had so much engery. Also dropped a medication too. Which is best of all.

A low fat, low carbohydrate diet. My husband and I are both type 2 diabetics. This diet has worked for both of us. He has lost 60 lbs. and I have lost 24 in less than a year. It is a very good diet with plenty of food.
My husband get 2000 calories a day, with 5 carbohydrates at each meal. I get about 1650, with 4 carbohydrates choices at each meal.
You may or may not know this but carbohydrates consist of the starches and sugars we consume.
Here is our diet:
Breakfast:
1 protein - 1 egg boiled OR, one egg scrambled in Pam
1 slice 100% whole wheat bread = 1 carbohydrate
1 fruit- 1/2 grapefruit = 1 carbohydrate
1 cup 1% sweet milk = 1 carbohydrate
1/4 cup dry oatmeal cooked in water= 1 carbohydrate
1 fat - 1 tablespoon light margarine
this is a total of 4 carbs.
my husband's 5th carb, he gets 1 tablespoon sugar free jelly
Lunch and dinner:
3oz. lean meat, baked, broiled, or grilled, such as a boneless cooked chicken breast about the size of a deck of cards.
I Starchy vegetable, like 1/2 cup corn OR small potatoe = 1 carb.
1 fruit, small orange OR apple OR 1/2 cup no sugar added peaches =1 carb.
1 Slice 100% whole wheat bread = 1 carb
1 cup 1% Sweet milk OR 1 cup low fat butter milk = 1 carb.
5th carb. for men = 1/2 cup sugar free Jello with a dab of light Cool Whip.
For lunch and dinner we get a small side salad with 2 tablespoons light dressing to go with our meal.
You really need to ask your doctor to send you to a dietitian . A dietitian can design a diet just for you. Sometimes people are told to eat three meals while others are told to eat six small meals, this really depends on the person. Everybody's needs are not the same.
You should try to avoid white bread and white flour. These are very bad for diabetics. It is like it turns into sugar when it hits the stomach.
Good luck with your diabetes. Hope this helps a little. If you try this diet don't get discouraged if you don't see results in a few days. My husband lost right away, but I, being a woman lost at a slower pace. It really depends on the person.

The best thing to do is take in less calories than you burn, and increase exercise. Eating healthy is very important too. Make sure you cover the food pyramid daily. A great book is Diabetes Meal Planning Made Easy by Hope S. Warshaw.

my doctor started me on Metformin and a 1600 calorie ADA diet, suggest that if you are having difficutly on your own, see your doctor and get a referral to a diabetic educator or a nutritionist. I've lost 25 lbs in two months since starting the metformin, and sticking to the diet like glue.

Avoid simple carbohydrates completely.
Have hypoglycemic foods like gooseberries or bittergourd once in a while.
If you want to lose weight you have to take dietary fibre rich foods because it increases the insulin sensitivity and reduces weight.
Wheat and wheat products, beans and peas are rich in dietary fibre.
Fruits like apple, guava and papaya are good for diabetics.
one more way of losing weight is to drink water before you eat.
