* eliminated cans of pop - excess sugar increases triglycerides that get converted into cholesterol
* increased exercise - walk to and from work most days
* increased foods with good cholesterol (started eating nuts as snacks)
* cut back saturated fats to as close to zero as possible on most meals by switching breakfast cereals; eliminating butter, corn oil, and margarine by substituting olive oil; reducing the amount of red meat; stopped eating fast food; and now make healthy lunches at home and take them to work.

This knocked the cholesterol out of the high category, and landed me solidly in the healthy category in just one month. An unexpected benefit was extra money from switching to mostly home cooked foods.
