The Western Blot test isn't an AIDS test. The Western Blot test can determine if a person has HIV antibodies, but it can also be used as the definitive test for Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (commonly referred to as "mad cow disease"). Some forms of Lyme disease can also be tested by using the Western Blot test.
There ARE tests that can tell if a person has herpes though. The most preferred way and the most common way of diagnosing herpes is by a physical examination, but there are blood tests that can be done to determine if a person has herpes antibodies. They can sometimes be misleading though or inconclusive.

The western blot can be used to check for herpes. They don't give herpes blood tests as routine but they are available. I was also told by my doctor they didn't exist (I live in the UK) but I contacted the UK-based Herpes Viruses Association who were able to get one done for my boyfriend. Ask your doctor to look again - it is possible.
And you don't have to have an outbreak - the most reliable test is a swab taken from an outbreak but you can get the blood test even if you have never had symptoms. hey just recommend that you wait until at least three months after exposure to the virus.

There is a test, blood, i never had any symptoms but recently i found out i had hsv-2 by having blood drawn and it picked up the antibodies, according to a website, sorry can't remember it right now, the blood test is 97 - 100% accurate. it can't tell u when you were infected with the virus just that you have it, because herpes can lie dormant for years and you may never have symptoms

You can get any and all STD tests done at a local health department as well as any general practitioner pyhsician. I would recommend that if you think that you have herpes that you have ALL the STD tests runs when you go. Good luck to you.

The Western Blot is in fact an AIDS test - one of them. There is also the ELISA to check for AIDS. They do a Herpes culture test to check for Herpes. So tell your doctor a little nurse proved him wrong today. LOL

YES they do have a test for herpes. while there is an outbreak preasent go to a doctor and ask them to do a swab test (culture test). i suppose the western blot will tell as well, but my doctor told me that blood tests won't confirm anything.

From what I understand the test will only be conclusive if you are having an outbreak. BTW, 80% of all pple have herpies, and it's not a killer or anything. No cure either, but it's not that big of a deal.
