Not only is chewing sugar free gum absolutely safe (for diabetics and non diabetics), if it has xylitol in it, it can reduce your chance of cavities over 80% according to a recent American Dental Association seminar.

Sugar free means just that - whether gum or anything else, diabetic or not, you can have as much as you want at any time without fear of affecting your blood sugar levels. However some people have reactions to Nutrasweet (headaches, etc.) and sometimes other sugarless sweeteners. Your situation may vary, so test it out. In general it should be safe as often as you like.

Mr. Peachy is also very correct - good for your dental health. (: And for me, it's a good appetite suppressant and treat when I'm getting a sugar craving (not so often anymore). It was also a great substitute for smoking while pregnant.

Good luck! (:

Chewing gum is not a problem. The bigger stuff is Cola, alcohol and other booze and any excess in the chocolate department. You don't want to go nuts and stop everything either: that will just make you want to go back to excess...just do it with moderation
