There is 7 calories in an ounce of alcohol. That is pretty low, you get the beer belly from all the other additives you drink with the alcohol. Soda, half and half, fruit juice etc..
Lots of people recommend just doing shots, good idea unless when you get totally messed up and you eat everything in sight and then don't remember doing it :-)

wine is actually your best bet. it has zero carbs, 100 calories for 5 ounces and virtually no other nutritionally value. Though red does have some properties that are good for your heart and possibly diabetes.
as comparison beer regular beer has 144 calories, light beer has 108 - 125 calories in 12 oz.
1 oz of vodka, that's like a shot glass, has 65 - 74 calories depending on the proof.
I would much rather have a glass of wine.

Vodka, is pretty much the lowest as far as I know. Have one with a diet tonic water and you're laughing.
Having said that, it is not so much the calories in alcoholic drinks that give you a beer belly, its the lifestyle. Most of those older guys you see with bellies get from poor diet and not enough exercise.
Beer in moderation is fine unless you tend to put on weight easily.

I don't think there is much fat in any alcohol, perhaps in cordials and such like bailey's and chambord. Stay away from those sweet things, and watch out for mixers.
All alcohol has calories, but beer, dry wine, and unsweetened liquors are all pretty low in calories, lower than fruit juice in most cases. So it really isn't going to make you all that fat, unless you consume an awful lot of it.
