Yeah, you can leave very soon, but you will be in transistion longer than usuall cause the soldiers who do all the training and paper work and what not need time off too. So if you left right before the holidays, you might be in holding for a couple weeks longer than usuall, but you will be at whatever base getting prepped.

1-800-GOARMY will set you up with the recruiter closest to you. They will be able to give you the best advice. You will most likely be able to leave right away. If you wait much longer though you may have to wait til after the first of the year. I hope this helps you out. Good luck.

Dude, under an agreement between traditional Allies with a US passport (Citizenship-no convictions) you could join the Army of the following nations: Australia, New Zealand, The Unitd Kingdom, Canada and no doubt others. I urge you to look at these as options, here are my reasons.
1-They will not send you to Iraq to the same degree. NZ & Canada do not even have troops there, UK & AUS have less percentage of Army there = less chance of getting killed over a bullshit war.
2- These countries have more respect worldwide. I am sorry but the actions of some (A very minor group) US soldiers in violation of the Geneva convention (Law of Armed Conflict/Rules of Engagement) such as random killing of the wrong family in Iraq has put US soldiers under increased threat, especially if captured. The other countries mentioned do not have the same level of negative press.
3- It is a better place to bring up a family in any of those other countries mentioned. We do not have the same levels of violent/gun crime (No stupid second amendment), have better education levels and its free too (Tertiary studies are substantially cheaper than in New Zealand than US) and have less idiots (Your President for instance).
4- Military training takes what you have got and challenges you to use that more effectively and to push your own boundaries. US training involves breaking you down and rebuilding you in the desired image. Down Under we allow you to be you, use your uniqueness and contribute to the team in your own way. We will make you the best you can be, US will make you the way they want you to be.
5- Iran may start going crazy soon, countries like NZ and AUS logistically cannot contribute to any missions there, simply not enough soldiers, so less risk of going to another stupid pointless war.
6- Yet the salaries here compare very favourably with those in the US and are even better in certain places and trades.
Think about it, survey your options. You want to be in the Army, experience it to the fullest and contribute to making the world a better place then consider my offer mentioned above.
Peace out!!
