It doesn't matter what service he is in or if he is white or black.

Officers are Selected so getting a DUI would make a big impact on him being selected over someone else that has a clean record.

It's not that he isn't still qualified, it's just that there are only so many slots that they will select from the enlisted ranks and he has just moved himself down on that list.

Unless he has something spectacular that sets himself apart from the others, he will probably be turned down.

Does your friend have at least a Bachelors Degree? Just because you are enlisted, doesnt mean you can make application to become an officer. You have to have a college degree or within a certain period of time, to even fill out the paperwork for the selection process.

Depends. If he is a minority, his chances are better. There are not a lot of qualified minorities trying to become officers, and an overabundance of white people. I am not being racist, those are just the facts. If he is white, he has no chance. I was a recruiter for the Marines and a qualified minority candidate to be an officer was like finding gold. We were back logged as far as white guys go though. If he is enlisted, and on active duty, I am sure he received some form of punishment from the military as well, and that will be very hard to overcome.

he's prolly screwed, unless he is other wise a top notch servicemember with great evals and no other issues. It also will not happen right away.. he may have to wait years before being allowed the opportunity.

If he is kicked out because of it, he will never become an Officer.

Depends on what branch you're going into.

For the airforce it's a one year waiting period after your probation period.
