In my opinion brown is much better as it brings out a much more decent flavour and it tastes much better and delicate. I use brown and my sister uses white. For me, hence the question "which is better for YOU" I rather brown.
Yet, many people still envy white and use it in their salads. I think it's one of those things which you can only choose a side and never go neutral. However, both should taste good but in each unique way.
You should try experimenting with brown and white and see which one matches or works for you best. Everyone has their own voice and different opinions.
Good Luck!

I think either 'white' (distilled) or 'brown' (malt) vinegar to be too acidic for a salad dressing. Instead, I like to use vinegar made from better ingredients than grain - and it depends on the ingredients in the salad or what it's accompanying.
Vinegars I like in salad dressing (in no particular order):
1) sherry vinegar - lends a slightly sweet, mellow flavour - great with anything remotely Spanish, or for a salad that includes nuts such as almonds
2) red wine vinegar - particularly cabernet sauvignon vinegar - a great stand-by for almost all dressings
3) balsamic vinegar - particularly a good properly aged one from Modena - great with tomatoes, basil and mozzarella
4) white wine vinegar - for a fairly neutral salad dressing
5) rice wine vinegar - for anything oriental - coconut vinegar works well too
6) cider vinegar - for anything with apples
7) perry vinegar - for anything with pears (try pear and brie with lettuce and celery...)
8) truffle vinegar - for anything with mushrooms (unlike the other vinegars, the truffle isn't used to make the vinegar, just to flavour it - for the others, the descriptor such as 'cider' is what is used to make the vinegar)

I prefer Apple Cider Vinegar (brown) compared to Distilled Vinegar (clear). The Apple Cider Vinegar has a much more subtle vinegar flavor, but is still tart enough for a great dressing. I don't think either vary in the goodness for you. Both (I think) are equal in that department. I would read the label.

Either red wine vinegar or white wine vinegar make excellent salad dressing, but if you only have white or brown on hand, I'd use brown.

The brown vinegar is better. It's made from apples and has a nice flavor. The white vinegar is just sour. I don't like it.
