ok people i am having my first date on friday and we agreed that we did not want to go out but eat in and cuddle up under the covers in front of the tv and watch a movie (cuddling up under the covers was not actually talked about but is a possibility) i need a toatly awsome recipie that will take lots of time to make and will really impress her. i can cook but i dont know what to make, oh and money is nothing i will be spending at least 100 dollars on this any way so i dont care how much it costs to make this. i will take answers from anyone that offers their help but if you are a chef that would be a great help (i said i can cook that means i know how to follow general directions and i have common sense around the kitchen) she said she would eat anything i make but i am really picky myself (no big peices of vegitables in the food and i dont eat much green) but i will use any kind of meat and any kind of spice that there is. (i am your basic fat guy i eat stuff that is not healthy)

"Filet Mignon with an excellent Merlot wine sauce."

This is an elegant and romantic dinner for two. Wonderful served with baby red potatoes and a salad

1/3 (750 milliliter) bottle Merlot wine
2/3 (14.5 ounce) can low-sodium chicken broth
1/3 (14.5 ounce) can beef broth

2 teaspoons unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon olive oil
2 (6 ounce) fillets beef tenderloin
freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon chopped shallots
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1/4 teaspoon fresh thyme

In a heavy sauce pan over high heat, combine wine, chicken broth and beef broth. Bring to a boil, and cook until mixture is reduced to 2 cups, about an hour. (This can be prepared a day ahead - cover and refrigerate).
In a small bowl, mix butter and flour. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle steaks with salt and pepper, and saute until medium-rare, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer steaks to a plate.
Stir shallots, garlic and thyme into skillet. Add 2 cups reduced wine mixture to skillet. Bring mixture to a boil, scraping up any browned bits. Whisk in butter mixture until smooth. Boil sauce until thick enough to coat a spoon, about 2 to 3 minutes.

Dessert could be a chocolate fondue! Get all sorts of yummy things to dip, apple slices, fresh bananas and strawberries and maybe dried apricots.
My sweetie did this for me on our frist date (chocolate fondue, Roses and Candles) and we do this often and usually get into the romance of it all just feeding each other.

They sell little small crock-pots at places like Bed Bath and Beyond that are just perfect for a 2 person fondue.

I agree with pasta - but be careful of drippy sauces. Else you could try beef bourgignon - it is easier to make than it looks but you need to prepare the marinade (Step 1) and marinate the meat overnight (Step 2) - so you will do the first steps tomorrow evening.

Steps 3 to 8 must be started at least 4 hours before you actually eat and Steps 9 and 10 about 90 minutes in advance. The vegetables could be brought frozen and microwaveable - she should be impressed at all the preparation anyway.

The great thing about this meal is that you can talk to the guest without having to cook at them - only the microwave veggy bit and dishing up requires kitchen time - but they might be willing to help with this which brings some domesticity into the romance which adds to the effect.

Why spend a lot of time? Its a date!!

These tips are from an article I wrote several years ago about cooking for lovers. It was a V-day theme. I promise this sounds long but it takes about 20 minutes with little effort.

I suggest quick and easy
Not filling - Not messy
And leave the cleaning for later or cook using as little pans as possible so the kitchen is not cluttered.
USE YOUR BEST PLATES AND SILVER WARE
Matching everthing including glasses and for heavens sake use cloth napkins!!

Keep the focus on you, wash your hands, keep the light low, don't make a mess and serve with a garnish on a larger plate with some suace drizzled over what ever you cook.

Ready for the meal?
Marinated Mini - Surf & Turf

Get a decent sized ribeye, thick.
Marinate it over night in your favorite marinade - store bought is fine. You could even use decent stew meat if needed.
Get several LARGE shrimp, shelled, veined etc

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

When you cook, cut the rib eye in half, sear on both sides in a pan with some butter and garlic. Place whole skillet in oven if oven safe. If not put on a sprayed pan. Or in a pinch cook completly in the skillet.

Brush the shrimp in some butter, pepper and creole seasoning. Bake along side the steak until done, - Not translucent!!

Remove the steak from the oven, place on a dish, top with the shrimp and serve with a quick cream sauce.

Quick cream sauce - two spoons full of may, two spoons full of sour cream a dash of milk and a few dashes of Italian season or creole season. Thin with milk enough to drizzle.

Get something like a frozen mini yeast loaf from the frozen food section and bake it fresh. Serve it along side with some butter.

Good luck! Hope this helps. I made the same thing for my girlfriend when I first cooked for her. Now she is Mrs Whitaker!

Good Luck

SPAGHETTI of course. Why Spaghetti? Fish smells. Steaks are to easy to wind up tough and dry, and on a barbe everyone smells smoky. Chicken is good but hardly romantic with greasy fingers. Wine goes naturally with spaghetti, so you can ply her with wine and not seem like your plying her with wine on purpose. This is an easy recipe and can be brought out at any time that is convenient (so as not to disturb the romance flow) and heated up in 5 to 7 minutes. TWICE COOKED SPAGHETTI 1 to 1 1/2 lb ground beef Mushrooms sliced and or chopped 10 or 12 Black olives sliced to make rings pinch Ground red pepper Sauce (Prego) any type 10 oz jar In a large skillet brown ground beef, mushrooms, black olives. Add red pepper and sauce (all of it) blend and cover. Let simmer while spaghetti is cooking. Strain spaghetti and add to the sauce mixture in the skillet. Blend well until all noodles are covered with sauce and pat down flat into the skillet. Cover and put in fridge for at least 45 min to 1 hour. the longer the better. Tomorrow would be good too. Remove skillet from fridge and reheat on stove top. Cut spaghetti with a spatula and mix as you heat. When hot throughout, serve. Top with Parmesan cheese. Delicious surprise! better than just spaghetti. Glad you asked.

I made this for my then girlfriend and I first date....she is now my wife and she loved it. Im basically giving you the starter for it, you can either serve just the beef as is and just cook some sides along with it like fried potatoes or mashed potatoes. But making some grilled peppers along with this is awesome.

Ingredients
3 pounds beef roast
2 onions, chopped
2 (12 fluid ounce) cans or bottles beer
6 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
salt to taste
1 (18 ounce) bottle barbecue sauce
2 cups water
Cooking Instructions
Preheat oven to 275 degrees (135 degrees C).

Place roast in a large roasting pan and scatter chopped onions over.

In a large bowl, combine Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Pour in beer, stir and add to roasting pan. Add water to the top of beef.

Cover and cook in oven at 275 degrees F (135 degrees C) for 4 to 5 hours.

When meat is cooked, shred meat with 2 forks, add barbecue sauce and mix well.

Make sure you dont cut the meat until the meat has sat for at least 5 minutes, or else you lose all the juices in the meat.

How about baked salmon?
Marinate the salmon for no more than 3 hours in this marinade:
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp garlic
Bake for 20 mins per inch at 350

Or, how about Chili Lime Prawns?

1 bag frozen prawns
2 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp lime juice
1-2 tsp sambal oleck (depending on how hot you like them)
Marinate the prawns in half the marinade for no longer than 10 minutes (the lime juice will cook them)
Saute the prawns in butter then, when almost done, add the rest of the marinade

Or go with something simple like homemade chicken alfredo?

3 tbsp butter
5 tbsp (+/- a tbsp) flour
1 tbsp garlic
1/2 parmesan cheese
3 cups milk
1 tsp salt (or to taste)

In a pot, melt the butter. Add flour until it turns into a thick paste. Remove from heat, SLOWLY add milk. Return to heat, stirring until it begins to thicken. Add garlic, cheese and salt. Stir until thick, remove from heat.
Serve with pasta and grilled chicken

I'm not a chef but I'm an aspiring chef :) For an at-home dinner date, pasta is an excellent choice. To begin, have a small salad. Then make your favorite pasta dish. For dessert... chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, or chocolate creme pie is always good. Women love chocolate (usually). If you don't want to go with the salad you can substitute it for quiche, or little snacks like crackers and cheese. A bottle of red wine with the pasta is always nice.

Try making a nice salad.. to start, a nice bottle of wine for dinner(red ) chateau neuf de pape (white) pinot Noir. buy some seafood and make a rice pilaff to go with it, as well as some vegetables (fresh steamed) asparagus, steam(n 5 min) and then pour a little lemon juice on top and then sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
make a nice light dessert, maybe fresh fruit and whipped cream on angel food cake.....

Is dependent on the context really. Which is better as a snack - fruits to me. It's tastier and gives you that little of sweetness. Which can be better as a snack if you are trying hard to slice back on sugar and lose weight vegetables
