The reason I am asking the Q is because I am about to buy a new PC but all the different opinions from retailers about xp versus vista is confusing me,tought I'd ask ppl who use it or have used their opinions, more honesty that way...thanx again

One of my favorite questions about the evil Gates empire.

Micro$oft puts out their products as fast and furious as they can without being libel for selling crap. Then when it doesn't work, you (the consumer) calls the 1-900 number with credit card in hand, and pay to tell them where their bugs are. After they collect a few hundred bugs, volia`, out comes an urgent update patch. Windows XP has been out long enough to have received enough patches and Service Packs that, hey now it works.

I doubt that Vista will ever be able to get enough service packs and patches to work. Many US installations have banned Vista and all of the Office products in Vista are not compatible with any previous version.

Vista sucks!

.......off my soapbox now.

XP hands down. Vista is far too ahead of itself. Dell not too long ago began offering XP again after they had been only offering Vista with new systems.
My sister owns a fast growing computer services business in Vegas and she doesn't offer Vista to her clients.
The problem with Vista is that very few programs are compatible with it and this is causing pc crashes, freezes, and inability to access saved data often times.
If a person is upgrading to Vista from XP then backing up all files is a must before doing the uprgrade process.
If it's a new pc and has Vista as part of the package then the computer user experience will be very boring as very few programs are compatible to run on Vista and the programs that do work with it are very limited in number.
I prefer to stay with XP until the world catches up with Vista.

I have looked at Vista and have used XP, but my own computer still runs W2k.

When I built it several years ago I installed W98, and upgraded to W2k when I felt it would be a more stable system. I considered XP when I upgraded, but chose W2k because I felt it would be more stable on my system.

I may upgrade if I change processors or simply feel the need for an upgraded system. I would consider using Vista if I felt I needed it and had a system that would adequately support it.

Vista use a lot of ram, my friend has 2 GB HDD2 ram and the Vista use 50% of this, but Vista is much beautifull( lot of visual effects and another things). But i think XP SP2 is better, it`s more reliable, and in vista some applications are not runinng.
Sorry for my english if is not correct

I don't like Vista. For it's a programe for web designers.
It protects too much from hackers so that it runs slower than XP.

XP here. Vista does not seem to be a 'home computer'.
