just so you know 'great aunt ruth' does not exist. i just wrote something random to see what people would do. youll notice that i use 'i' and 'my' as if i really was great aunt ruth.

Go to the funeral and then catch a later flight--the airline company can alter the plan ---there are lots of flights everyday--go the next day and enjoy it. DO NOT talk about the trip at the funeral--not being concerned about your family sounds crass and boorish--so do the right thing, Sorry to hear about your loss.

If you feel the slightest sadness over her passing away, then you must go to the funeral. Now that she's gone, wouldn't you at least miss the Easter chocolates? This funeral is a one-time affair and your kins will need the emotional support you can give. . . just this once. Just think: if a similar thing should happen to you and your relatives did not appear at the funeral because they went on a company trip, how would you feel about it?
Condolence!

the day before pay your respects and talk to the caretaker and find the graveyard where she will be burried and leave flowers at the burial site and a From (whoever you are) card showing the people who attend the funeral that you paid their respects

Family is the most important thing in this life. You don't go for the one you lost, you go for those who got left behind. They Will need support. How many times has your family been there for you? You need to be there for them.

Are there calling hours? I would go to those and then to on your trip. If there are not you can still see her and pay your last respects before you leave. She would not want you to cancel your trip. I wouldn't not want you to if it were me that died.
