REASONS: Asutralia has 40% of the worlds uranium supplies.
They have like the 4th best special forced only 4th to SEALS British SAS and israeli special forces.
They have a large Navy with like 65 submarines.
Small but Highly trained army and airforce.

And most importintly they have treaties with U.K and U.S.A superpowers themselfs.

Australia is the Power of the South Pacific. They have a very healthy economy and resources to match. However they have a small population which would withold them from reaching true Superpower status. They do not really have any advanced bases like the USA or the old Soviet Union did so cannot attack from all angles. They do however play a vital role in the South Pacific and Antartica, hence the role of there very efficient Navy. New Zealand & Australian special forces are some of the best in the world. New Zealand is however more of a pacifist country so any chance of an even more powerful Pacific force is virtually nil.
Oh and to the Sting I think you will find that British SBS is better than SAS. Read up on both & then decide. SAS have in the past got credit for SAS work & being better known will probably get some too in the future, but combined SAS & SBS well there is no equal really. Maybe a question for another day

Australia is not a superpower in the traditional sense, leaving that crown to the US. However, they do have a small and highly efficient, well trained military (but not with 65 subs). Although there may be uranium in the ground, they do not have the capability at the moment of enriching it there, let alone producing a feasible weapon. Atomic bombs have been tested in the outback, but they were British in origin. With the current uranium policy, it will not be changing in a hurry. Australia is still yet to decide whether to even create a nuclear powerplant and currently has only one small atomic reactor for scientific and medical purposes.

Australia can be considered a regional power,as the largest nation in the south pacific and engagements in the Solomon Islands, East Timor. New Zealand, for instance, no longer has jet fighters in their military as they figure an enemy will have to get past Australia first.

And Australia does not have the 4th best special forces, they are THE best

It might now be, but there really isn't any need. Why spend the money on being a superpower when you are very close allies with some of the most powerful counties in the world. (US & UK)

I don't recall any offensive operations that Australia has taken on themselves. But at the same time, if a country was to attack Australia, the attack would not be successful. They do have a modern military, and some serious backup is only a phone call away.

At the moment the world's only superpower is the United States. China could soon reach that status, but hasn't yet.

The old Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russia) was a superpower, but with its dissolution at the end of the Cold War, lost that status. Putin would undoubtedly like to elevate Russia to superpower status but that probably won't happen soon.

Australia, like several other countries, stands out as a World Power, commanding a large land area, with resources, a productive population and an effective armed forces.

It has a strong economy, but ranks below the U.S., Japan, Germany and China.

Australia does have great potential for future growth.

Australia may or may not be a superpower in the traditional sense. We may not have a nuclear navy or weapons, but who needs those to threaten other countries or to cower others into doing what they want.

I have no love for Bush or Howard ones a war monger the other is a brown noser who can't make his own decisions.

as for the idiot who says you need to launch into space to be a super power check your history and you'll see Australia gave the US all it's work on rocketry after WWII

We could launch space craft if we wanted but we don't see the point in wasting the money the US does, it's also rediculous the price the US military pays for equipement, this doesn't make it a super power it makes it stupid.

So a plane costs 30 million dollars, doesn't make it the best plane. Just expensive.

No. Australia is more of a regional power since it made its presence in the South Pacific region many times over since 1901. Australia is also a major player in the Asia region. The only problem with Australia is its accent in the English language. It will get far sooner or later.

I think there is only one superpower country and that's currently the United States like someone before me said, I live in the US and I have to say I honestly don't see it lasting much longer as long as Bush is in office. The economy is going to hell and back.
Yeah **** happens when war starts but come on this is stupid. All of this for a war on terror, no country in the world will be able to win that war, it's like trying to stop all crime in Mexico from Canada it's impossible. The only way to stop it in that area would be to bomb the whole place killing innocent people, so the only way to defeat them would be to be terrorists ourselves...wait what was the question lol. Sorry i wandered off of subject.

There can only be one superpower and that is the United States of America. Some speculators believe that China will be the next superpower, which will never happen because China is too corrupt and it is still a communist with a few politicians controlling all the money with billions in poverty.

Australia will only qualify as a superpower if it can send its own spacecraft in outer space, just like the US, Russia, and China did in the past. Those nations were called superpowers because they were able to conquer the frontiers of outer space.
