Isn't it in their religion to be kind to all? So when a christian slanders a atheist then they are commiting a sin.

Also why do most christians only want to be friends with other christians yet athiests will be friends with anyone regardless of religion?

For those that are saying have i met a christian then yes i have. Most of my family are christian and i knew many people in school who were and most of those people excluded me and picked on me because i'm a athiest.

because they are afraid of what they don't understand, and most peoples reaction to something they are afraid of is to take away its power over them, they do this by hurling insults, instead of trying to just understand and accept. they are incapable of just accepting people for who they are even though their own religion calls for it. they will try to insult you until you see that they are right and they are the ONLY religion in the history of the planet that holds the key to salvation and you and everyone else are wrong and you convert, that is their goal. but if they knew anything about the human psyche they would know that this will never work. but they don't think about anything. the fact still remains that NO ONE knows....and no one will ever know until they die, so the argument will never be won by anyone. the only thing we can do is believe what we choose to believe or not believe and live our lives, regardless of what anyone else tells us to do.

I don't think it's "slander" but more like "disagree with." In the R&S section I have found it tio be the other way around. From my perspective, it's the atheist that slanders the Christian. PLEASE go to postings where Christian vs Atheist (or the other way around) is apparent, and see if what I am saying is true or not. I think the greater amount of slander will come from the Atheist. Doubt my word? Just go to the postings-Q&A and find out. I think that most of the time a Christian posting is ment to help the other person/s. Help-not hinder. Yes, a Christian is to be kind to all, but that doesn't mean that a Christian has to find a faulty belief or life style as being good. Why call something that is wrong as being right? A Christian may be friends with ANYONE, but they will have more in common with another Christian.

Have you met every Christian on the face of the earth? I think not. I am a believer and I don't slander people, atheist or not (I consider that to be a sin, which most Christians try to stray away from). Also, I am more than willing to be friends with anyone regardless of what their religion is.

I have noticed however, the few atheists I have met are not willing to be friends with me because I believe in God. Kinda interesting isn't it?

*chuckles* Don't you think this is a bit slanted and simplistic? I am not sure you can say (without slander) anything about what "most Christians" do. I will go for most that you know of...

Further, don't you think you should take off the rose colored glasses about how nice atheists are and see that there are about equal numbers of nice and not so nice on both sides.

Really, Christians are still humans that still mess up far more than we would like. We are still not as kind as we know we should be. Yes we are committing sin when we slander others.

I do not think it is fair to point this particular finger at just the Christians. I am Pagan and I have many friends and family who are of many different religions. I have respect for them and they in turn have respect for me.

I have known many from other faiths to be slanderous and judgmental. This is not faith discriminate. If you take notice you will see that many faiths slander or judge all other faiths in which they do not adhere to their own beliefs.

To answer the other portion, it is considered a sin to judge someone but at the same time their books and higher Archy tell them to convert or damn to hell. There are many who abide by this but there are just as many who do not do this.

I also do not agree that Christians will only befriend other Christians. I think that is more of a personal preference then a religious thing. Many believe they are sinning if they befriend someone who is "against god", but many give respect to the fact that others have a right to their own beliefs.

I personally believe it does not matter what religion you are, as long as you are a good person, thats all that matters.

I think you are all wet. What slander? If you don't believe you will burn is not slander it's truth. Did someone slander you by assuming you are "Christian".
I can be friends with a atheist, I just don't want him hanging around arguing that I'm wrong all the time with nothing to back it up.
Plus it is unlikely we will have the same lifestyle, so where do we hang out.
You aren't going to church and I'm sure as hell not going to a bar.
You are mistaken if you think all Christians are push overs. I know a demon when I see one and I'm very willing to do battle with it. Slap me once I'll forgive you and leave, try to stop me and learn what Christian warrior means.

I'm an atheist and some of my fellow atheists are just as guilty of what you've posted. It's a two way street. Take any groups of people and you'll find a few that are just out to fight.

But generally, the atheists are nicer, indeed.

Look at how patient we are with the endless repeats of Pascal's Wager, "Man from monkey" lies and being instructed to read that liar Lee Strobel.

I don't slander any group, but I do counter attack any religion that comes at me. All of them.

I'm an atheist, and I can tell you it's not all hot and buttery as you make it. I have christian friends, and I have atheist friends who are uncomfortable around these people and any comments they make concerning the metaphysical. I have no such problem.

Some people are just intolerant of those who aren't like them...these people exist in all groups and philosophies, and stems from fear...in the case of being wary of Christians it may be fear of considering the concept as valid, for the flip side it may be fear of Christians to envision a world without a God.

I think most christians contradict themselves in some way and thus one example that you have provided

I am a self proclaimed atheist but have had a few christian friends and every time we start talking about religion it always becomes such a huge debate and we argue for hours on end mostly because they keep trying to convince me that god is real

I think that they'd rather have christian friends just because they'd be easier for them to get along with lol

most christians i've found don't like their religion being in question because they know their are a lot of contradictions and mis translations so they just try to talk about the straight forward stuff since the other christians will just nod their heads and be like yup and mmhmm and or amen...

There are a small number of very vocal Christians that slander Atheists. Don't let them get to you... These days I enjoy the thumbs down and feel that I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't get any ;). As for why they only make friends with other Christians I believe this is part of the brain washing. Their church/religion doesn't want them making friends with non crhistians because they might have the truth explained to them. Christianity, and religion in general, is a cult that relies on ignorance, uneducation and brainwashing the simple minded. It's been that way historically, it's a way for those in power to control the masses. Bring on the thumbs down :).

Friendship with World is Enmity Toward God.

"Adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God." ~ James 4:4
"Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." ~ 1 John 2:15
