I just started dating this girl we both really like each other. I don't know what to do on the first date like where to go and all that stuff. We've hung out a few times with people to break the ice but its time to move to one on one. Or at least give it a try. I thought about the common dinner and a movie but I've heard that can be bad. We are still pritty shy around each other.

I would hold off on the movie for awhile since it will prevent you from talking to each other which will make things more awkward until you become more comfortable with each other. (Sure you sit in silence which seems like it would cut the awkwardness, but then, what would you learn about each other to talk about on your next date?) Dinner is good, but if you can think of anything you both like to do (some kind of activity) that could help you have a few laughs and break the awkwardness, then that would be a good way to start. What does she like to do?

I agree with Kate. It should be something you both enjoy, but something more along the line that show cases what you bring to the table.

Or it could be something that you both want to do, but have never done before.

Dinner + movie... bad!!!

Dinner - expensive... you're not sure if you should pick it up or not. A home cooked meal however is not the same...

Movie - no time to talk to get more relaxed around each other.

Then again... I'm still single, so what do I know... =)

Best of luck!!!

Since you guys are still dealing with shyness, but want to break away from the social dating with friends I would suggest something simple yet fun vs something serious and intimate... Try something along the lines of putt putt golf - it is a stress free environment that still gives you a sense of privacy with the comfort of a non-intimate setting... That way you can laugh, have fun, and then after wards a simple meal - not fast food, but nothing you would have to sit and wait on for a long time... That way you avoid those awkward moments of silence and reaching for your drink every two seconds...

Do NOT go to dinner and the movies and especially do NOT go to an exspensive dinner!

This is too akward and exspensive. (Not to mention it actually makes matters worse if you want to get laid! lol!)

Instead find out what her interests are and tell her that you are planning a big surprise for her (women love mystery!) then PLAN something from start to finish based on something that she likes. For example, go on a hike, maybe go on a bkie ride just make sure that it is something that is FUN for both of you.

Plan plan plan! Do not skip any details! You as the man want to take charge and PLAN the whole thing out from start to finish!

Well I think a movie is good. Especially if you two are still in that "awkward" stage because you dont have to worry about quiet moments since you two are watching a movie. And you can get closer to her during movies and if shes not comfortable she'll just lean away...no harm... I think its a simple easy way to get things started. And become more comfortable with each others presence.......

find something you both like to do, like sports, going to a rock concert, swimming or something..you know, a thing you can both do so that it can be a conversation starter or something like a common experience to share..or if the date turns a little bit boring, at least you don't have to stare at each other speechless the entire night..when my boyfriend and i first went out together, we went to a rock show and ate dinner afterwards..it was so much fun because we both like music and it helped a lot so we can talk to each other..good luck with the date dude..
