What are some ideas on how to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with the spirits of the deceased - those that may still have the potential for presence in our life?

There is a concept developed by Tientai in China in the 6th century. It is called ichinen sanzen in Japanese and synthesizes the entirety of existence. After I learned to stop being intimidated by the mistranslations and muddled representations of it, I was able to resolve my rather negative relationship with both my deceased parents. Its study is not as difficult once a person understand that it is 3000 aspects of consciousness. and that the number 3000 is a simplification chosen for cultural significance.

I actually attended a "Dumb Supper" a few nights ago. This is a dinner where the participants do not speak a word the entire time, in honor of people who have died over the past year. I went to 4 funerals in the spring, one of whom oddly enough was friend who usually hosted this particular annual supper.
It was suggested that we make a memorial of sorts in our home, using photos and other momentos. An "altar to the dead", I suppose you could call it. I've also ready some interesting meditations and suggestions in "The Necromantic Ritual Workbook".
For the record, I'm an atheist and do not believe in "spirits" in any metaphysical sense. But I do believe in the power and beautiful of symbolism and ritualized expression. Everybody eventually experiences the death of somebody close, and as is typical of humans, we often want to express thoughts on it through something symbolic.

Often the key to maintaining a good relationship is just to spend more time with each other. Listen to the other person or spirit.

Those spirits cannot communicate with you; what will communicate with you are demon spirits purposed to deceive you and to destroy you. The bible forbids communication with the dead and that is why; the demons will come to destroy you instead. They hover around dead issues, sin, etc.
Seek God, Jesus Christ, receive the Holy Spirit by repenting of your sins and receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior. He will communicate with you. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life."
Let the past rest.

I am curious if you are experiencing a presence? You could honor their memory, try to contact them and ask what they want if anything, I imagine a lot of times there isn't much they want with the living. Send them feelings of love and compassion.

Any one who thinks they can relate to the dead in other than a grieving or joy mode in my opinion should check themselves in to the nearest loony facility.

Talk to them i guess just don't get caught talking to them otherwise you might get admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
