It helps to read this scripture in modern english.
"Work, not for the food that perishes, but for the food that remains for life everlasting, which the Son of man will give YOU; for upon this one the Father, even God, has put his seal [of approval].”
Read verses 25 and 26 also to get the context of what Jesus was saying. Jesus was here speaking to the crowds who were following him, hoping to get another free meal. Here Jesus was warning about becoming what is known as a 'rice Christian' - someone who converts simply to better themselves physically. While becoming Christians does teach us how to lead better lives in general, our spiritual state is of far greater importance.

it means dont go looking for or seeking for the food here on earth, that dosent mean the food we eat but all the worldly things that bring us happiness for just a while and takes it away.
eg. if we eat food we will be happy when we eat it but after a few hours we will again feel hungry, the food is not everlasting.
then it means we should look for the meat that leads us to everlasting life, it is the meat or food that feeds the soul which is holy spirit and this holy spirit given by jesus christ for until he comes again is the one that once we get we will never feel hungry again..
jesus also talk about water in ahother part where he says if you drink this water you will become thirsty but if you follow me i will give you the water which willl quench you thirst for ever. there also he was talking about holy spirit.
when jesus died and left the world he left his spirit with us. it was only after jesus' death that the spirit was left. so it is the spirit which is talked about as the meat which jesus will leave us to feed our soul and to never feel hungry again. whoever has recieved that spirit or eaten that meat, he can be sure that god has reserved a place for him in the heaven which is meant by "for him hath God the Father sealed..." God the Father has sealed or reserved a place for us in the heaven, from then on we are among the marked sheep of jesus christ.
this is my understanding.

It looks to advise not to labour for the pleasure of the present physical body which is bound to perish after death but for the body you get when you are raised from the grave by Jesus , which will be everlasting You would be taken to the house of god in heaven to live for eternity with your spouse , God has given this authority to Jesus. The advise is to work for this goal of being taken to the house of God after death with new flesh you get after resurrection.
This is the meaning of this statement ,I think, though I do not agree to the the suggestion that you would get new flesh on resurrection and would be takne ot heaven.Even the God's God can never do it as it is simply against the order of nature that is set in motioin by the Universe -the God that created all Gods! the rule of nature will prevail over any God's command.

this is not applicable to all people since not all are true believers.but if the word of GOD revealed this to you, itmeans you will have the ministry for HIM which is the ro;le of your existence here on earth!ask him in prayer!it might be you will served HIM as an intercessor, preacher, evangelist etc.the work for the meat which perished is the work every man do just to meet his need in life but the work that endureth in everlasting life is serving GOD in HIS guidance and will.

Works which are done in faith are done with eternal implications. By saying 'In faith" I mean those which are done by the urgings of the Holy Spirit, in truth.
The things which are not are not necessarily evil, but they perish with the using of them - as in the 'meat' that you eat and then pass through. The 'meat which endureth' is that which will stand on Judgement Day, the works that God does through the believer.

What I take from this is that the meat meat/food that is being spoke of is spiritual food.
so I take it as dont work for earthly possesions because they will never get you into Heaven but instead be more focused on your soul because if you are that taken up with money or anything else your putting false gods before you.
or somthing along those lines... mine says "dont work for food that perisshes but for the food that endures for eternal life.which the son of man will give you. on him the father, God, has set his seal>"

We can spend our lives worrying what we will eat and drink; or we can put our trust in God, that He will see to our needs. "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, (the meat of the word, the truth), and then all these things shall be added unto you."

My version says "But you shouldn't be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that I, the Son of Man, can give you. For God the Father has sent me for that very purpose."
Basically, don't worry about stupid things like food or other little things. We need to focus on God and why we are here on Earth.
Hope this helps =]

It simply means that we shouldn't get too attached with the material and temporary things in this world. Instead, we should do God's work here on Earth with the best of our abilities instead of wasting away our lives working and working and working or pleasure and pleasure and pleasure because what use are they when we die?
