I'll go with the running assumption that you mean "numb". Honestly, I'm just giving you the benefit of the doubt. If that isn't what you meant, please let me know and I'll revise my answer.
OK...
Numbness isn't the major impetus affecting reporters. That would be the business of news. Reporters work for peanuts year after year, get really valid stories in areas requiring specific knowledge and an in-depth understanding of the subject at hand and ... what? The news-house doesn't want to print it because some bone-headed story about the Bradgelina baby will sell more ads.
So, I think they just give up on the importance of being accurate and thorough.

Oh my. You mean chaos and numb. I was wondering what happened in a field in some place called koas and doing searches.
Sure they get numb. It comes with repeated exposure. So do firemen, paramedics, policemen and emergency room workers. Reporters have an additional motivation to be numb in that there job is to report what happened, the facts and not inject their opinions. At least that's what good reporters do. Keeping themselves disassociated with the event helps with that.
I think Americans are getting numb. They are machine gunned with bad news - murders, fires etc... and have gotten to where it does not mean anything to them. The 24 hour news channels may have had a bad effect.

I believe they do go Numb a bit, but frankly there aren't that many new reporters out there anymore. There mostly news readers.
In my job I get a bit disconnected , because I've seen alot of dead people. I still feel, but when I see some one dead, it doesn't hit me as that was a person. It's different though when you know the person.
