Lancet lives in Kirabati.
In his culture his wife will be picked for him.
Lancet has been to school in the city and wants to choose his own wife.
His family and village forbid this.
What are some ways to improve this situation?

Lancet may need to be man enough to leave his village and move back to the city where he will be free to choose his own wife.
Lancet is a brave and intelligent person, who CAN make his own way in the world, without the outdated constraints and people that are limiting his freedom and choices.

We can't change another cultures beliefs that easily. It takes a long time for some one to change what they consider to be wrong in their own culture. But the people of that village will have to decide that they want a change. And as always it will take the younger generation to start that change. It has taken people in the USA a long time to except that women should vote. But it took women standing up for their rights to effect change. That is what it will take in that village, some one to take a stand. But the first one to take that stand is going to have the hardest part of all.

Ask his family to select a bride from a group of very attractive women. If they select an attractive bride, Lancet will probably be happy enough.

Lancet should bribe whoever it is that decides who his wife will be, to pick the one he wants. Such systems are set up to facilitate such bribes.

tell lancet to follow his own heart. his village and family will grow to accept him eventually. but its more important to lead your own life than the one others choose for you!
