The Cathlolic Church celebrates all saints day on thursday. I am confused as to how to distinguish a hero from a saint and saint from a hero whom I believe both are able to do great things or small things for the good of others, for country and for God...in an unselfish motive..

Chuck Norris is both a hero and a saint.

I guess a hero is more realistic than a saint. I have no idea why the Catholic Church praises saints when the only being they should praise is GOD. The only difference is that a saint is sort of worshipped for doing things a normal hero would do. a hero is actually just treated with respect and approval, not praying to him after he's dead.

I think Mother Tresa was a hero and a saint. She did nothing for herself and save a lot of other people which makes her a hero. A saint if there is one it would be her. Because she didn't give up trying to teach a better way of life and giving hope.

+ Heros +

A hero is a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.

+ Saints +

All Saints Day is the day on which Catholics remember all the saints of the Church, whether officially canonized or not. It is celebrated on November 1.

Saints are people in heaven or on their way to heaven. All Christians dead and alive are saints.

The Catholic Church selects some of the most extraordinary examples, does in-depth research, and canonizes them.

"By canonizing some of the faithful, i.e., by solemnly proclaiming that they practiced heroic virtue and lived in fidelity to God's grace, the Church recognizes the power of the Spirit of holiness within her and sustains the hope of believers by proposing the saints to them as models and intercessors."

Dear Friend,

A hero/heroine is a man or woman of great courage and nobility.

A saint is someone who is exceptionally charitable, patient, etc. Someone who strives to live a holy life to edify Jesus Christ. All "doers" of the Word of God, Christians who are striving to be like Jesus Christ are... saints.

God says in His Word... 1 Peter 1:16 "Because it is written, BE YE HOLY; for I am holy." And of course, the only way a person can be holy is by the power of the Holy Spirit is a Christian.

1 Corinthians 1:2 says, "Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, CALLED TO BE SAINTS, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:" Saints can be living and those who are now gone on to glory.

1 Corinthians 6:2 says, "Do ye not know that the SAINTs shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?"

However, the GREATEST hero I've ever known... is Jesus Christ Himself... MY SAVIOR! He took my horrible sin and DIED a horrible death on a horrible cross for a horrible sinner like me. PRAISE GOD! Hallijuah to the Lamb of God!

Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

lostnsavd...

i think a "hero" is a person who helps and saves others without regard of their own personal safety.

A "saint" is a person who dedicates their lives to a cause, as in Mother Theresa...
