I get the generic form of xanax which is Alprazolam 0.5 mg. Tonight when I went to get my refill they were out of the generic form that my insurance covers, but so that I wouldn't run out, the pharmacist gave me a couple of white pills with "breaks"? in them? Until the others come in. I guess these are the real xanax. He didn't give any instructions and this isn't a 24 hour pharmacy, but can someone tell me how many mg each "break" in the pill is? There are 4 slits in one skinny pill. For it to equal 0.5mg, should I take 1/4 or 1/2 or the whole pill?

It sounds like what he gave you are the Xanax brand pills are usually 2mg as a whole tablet. This white tablet is scored three times. If you break the pill into 2 equal halves, you have 2 tablets each 1mg.
Take those 1mg tablets and break them in half and you have several of the 0.5mg that you need.

It sounds like the mg pill. The 0.5 and 1mg pills are like an egg shape with one break point. The 2mg tablets are longish and skinny and have 2 breaks on one side and 1on the other.

The othes are blue or purple (light) but the 2mg are white. Hope this helps.

My best advice would be to speak to the pharmacist to find out how many milligrams are in each pill. I believe from your description they might be 2mg though, in which case you would only take 1/4 tablet. Please check with the pharmacist.

You should have asked the pharmacist when you were there. Call back or go back as soon as you can to make sure.
