no offence please. There are lots of word in English to express positive association with some one. We can say, freindship, sympathy, mercy, association, attachment and many more. Why is that christians only uses the word "LOVE"? where as this is a general word which can even include meaning of "love making", fornication, adultery etc.
Love thy neighbour
I love Osama
Jesus loves Osama
I Love Jesus
God is Love
Jesus Loves us.
etc. etc..

Another problem is that we hardly get to see love from christians, its all hate and hate mongering. You can see the proof in R&S section

They are keeping only word love as a safety barrier against all sex, fornication, drinking, killing, and all sins and opposition to bible. Like a hindu when happy says Ram Ram Ram, when angry says Ram Ram Ram, when kill says Ram Ram Ram, when beaten says Ram Ram Ram. So Love Love Love of Jesus is safety for our christian brothers, while he himself was feeling safe only in following Laws of Bible, read:
"For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled (Bible-Mathew:5:17-18)

I think your many examples hit the mark Happy. It is not so much the word LOVE Christians are so obsessed with, it is the concept.Back when the Roman Empire ruled the known world to the West.there were wars, violence, hatred, persecution, and all sorts of misery.Christians sought to change that state of affairs. There solution was preach love.God is a loving God, God wants everyone to be moral and that meant doing right to your neighbors, love will get you to Heaven,etc...Lookat the ten Commandments. It all be peaceful and love.It became so ingrained into the Faith of Christainty, love was the path to Heaven. Why is Christianisty so defiantly opposed to Survival of the Fittest or Adaptation and Accommodation?Because it is based on strength and not love.Where you here in the 1960s?Everybody loves everybody, that is the Christian.Look what it led to.All the fun was used up and now there is nothing but disease .See Christianity becomes a self full-filling prophecy.Jesus is going to float down on a cloud and take away the two or three good people and all the rest of the hypocrites are going to hell.Love is probably one of the most misused and overused words in the language.Run a Comparision with other religions and I bet Christianity leads the pack in its use. You're right Happy they are obsesses with the word but to the point where they have transformed it into a concept. It was a way for the Herd or Slave Morality to overcome the strong and powerful Master Morality..

What I don't understand is, why do some atheists have such a big problem with what a Christian does or does not say. Love, in the context of God, means > a deep devotion.
Any body can take any word and put their own connotation on it. So if that is what love means to you fine. So in general, when you tell your family that you love them, which way are you meaning it?

you lost me after a bit. im not gonna lie.
but love can mean so many different things.
love is a very powerful emotion and basically (well at least for me) when you feel God it is a veerryy strong feeling.
the best word in the english language for that feeling is love.
i really dont know if thats right. but just my thoughts.
and im sorry that you dont see more Christians showing more love.
but you do seem kind of lost in religion.
ill keep you in my prayers.
have a good day!

Yeah, the English rendering isn't as precise as it needs to be. In the Koine Greek of the New Testament, there are two words that are translated as "love." The first is "philos" which essentially is love between friends. The second is "agape" which is unconditional love. This is the love that disciples are commanded to proclaim and demonstrate. Jesus said that his disciples would be known by their "agape" for each other. Hope that was helpful.
BTW - there are two more Greek words translated "love." They aren't in the Bible. "Storge" - familial love and "Eros" - sensual love.

There are three types of love. Agape love which is the love that Christians use means 'the love of God'. The other types of love are philios and eros love are the other types of love. eros meaning romantic love and philios is brotherly love. Agape love can not be manipulated, it is the undying love God has for everyone. This is obvious because of what hes done for us through Jesus miracles ect. Philios and eros love is the love that is manipulated and made dirty by things like fornication with eros love.

1 Cor 13 says what love is.
Yes, we hate sin; so does God. Why? Sin kills, it does nothing else. Some sin kills immediately, some sin is a slow kill, but no matter how you cut it, sin kills. That is what we hate, we hate sin. Because sin kills people. It's that simple.
If we have anger, it's at the devil, who deceives people so horribly about God and God's people.
Fornication and adultery is not love. It's using people for sexual gratification. It's hurting your spouse and breaking your promise to him/her and to God.

Because Christians believe God's Word. The commandment is that we love the Lord with our whole heart and we love others. By doing this, we follow all of the commandments.

Because the BIBLE says that "GOD IS LOVE"! You've got it all wrong about "love making", fornication, adultery etc. This is not love this is SEX! Sex is something you should do if you you love.
