The Prayer of Jabez:
"Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not cause you pain!" (1 Chronicles 4:9-10)

This was a man of the tribe of Judah. What he did is mentioned in only two verses of the Bible. (1 Chron. 4:9, 10) His name was Jabez, and he became “more honorable than his brothers.” How? Because he called on the God of Israel: “If you will without fail bless me and actually enlarge my territory and your hand really proves to be with me, and you really preserve me from calamity, that it may not hurt me."

Jabez was not making a vow but was offering a heartfelt prayer. Was he seeking more territory at the expense of others? No, he was praying for the peaceful enlargement of his territory. According to ancient Jewish tradition, Jabez wanted to establish a school and teach the worship of God. He wanted to get disciples for God. Since his motive was good, the Bible says: “Accordingly God brought to pass what he had asked.” So Jabez tried to cooperate with God,

Jabez had a sincere heart and did not want commit evil before the Lord and cause the Lord pain. Sounded as if Jabez loved the Lord!

That one simple prayer is a faithfulness to God prayer. In that prayer Jabez states that he wants to be true to God. Jesus gave the two greatest commandments; love God and love your neighbor; for love does no harm to its neighbor.

Because Jabez had Faith indeed. He was asking God to order his steps. Lead him in the path that God want him to go.

Jabez was more righteous than his brothers. Look at verse 9. You only typed verse 10.

9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”

The man,it is written WAS honorable, and his prayer was from his heart, So God in His grace honored it. As for me? I must meditate on this,, 'cause it's the first time i read it,,,,,thank you,,,,,
