can you go the day before if you find a mass at 5pm? i have to take someone out of town to dr. and need to go the day before

Yep, anything at or after five counts as a vigil.

Thursday, November 1 is All Saints Day (which is why the day before is All Hallows Eve or "Hallowe'en"). It's a Holy Day of Obligation, and yes, you can go to Mass on Wednesday evening to fulfill your obligation. Friday, November 2, is All Souls Day, when we remember the poor souls in purgatory.

yes.....not that i am catholic, i am pagan, but i have a devout catholic friend on the phone and yes....they do celebrate all saints day....
