ASVAB

I was army, i loved it. Its like one big party with your best friends and occasionally you have to go kick butt. My future hubby was a marine and he loved it.... as did my dad, mom, grandfather, uncle,... i could name half my family tree.

Don't sweat basic training in either, the drill sergeants('instructors' in usmc) are just trying to make you learn, they really do want to see you succeed and pass basic, and they're usually yelling at you because they're explaining stuff that will save your life.

BTW, you can't really pick your own job in marines, they pick it for you unless you're very exceptional or you know someone high up.

The test is the ASVAB. check out the link it explains in detail what it is what they test and you can take a practice test online. They use it to offer you your MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) IE if you score really well on the science section you could get offered a job in medical fields. They have study guides available at most major book stores.
I was in the Army and Im a military wife I miss the miltary service life. Its not easy to make it through basic training but when you do the sense of accomplishment is HUGE! A typical day for my husband when he is not deployed is he wakes around 0500 aka 500 am and reports in for his physical training or P.T. This lasts several hrs and then he will come home shower and report back around 0900 aka 900 am in his ACU's which is what they call the new camoflauge, They then do different stuff maybe weapons maintenence or ranges going to qualify their weapons. This is usually job specific--Its Work--- Then they usually have 30 mins to an hr lunch and they go back to work around 1300 aka 100 pm and work till after 1700 or 500 pm. then he comes home. The schedule is no 9-5 some days hes there earlier than 500 in the morning some days hes later than 500 pm it all depends. If you asked him if he is happy at what he does he would say yes. The chance to see the world is remarkable and the friends you make will last a life time. Would I as a former service member and wife have it any other way? No I wouldn't its the best thing thats ever happened to our family. Thank you for your Support and remember the veterans and those serving now. May be there is something you can do to help the ones in your community.

If you're planning on going to college, you could do ROTC or go to a service academy and come out as a 2LT in the Army or Marines, or an Ensign in the Navy. I'm not sure about Air Force or Coast Guard ranks. If you're not going to college, you will be a private in the Army (again, I'm not sure about the rest of the branches, but you'll get the lowest rank). I would recommend going to college, because you will get a higher rank (which means higher pay) upon graduation. However, if your grades aren't in the best shape, enlistment could be for you.

the test is called ASVAB. You take it twice. In school, and for the military. That is so it gives you a idea about what job you can get. I was in the army. Any questions all you have to do is ask.
