i've been losing alot more hair than usual lately. my mom said it was because i was straightening my hair too much, but i havent straightened my hair in 2 months and i still seem to lose the same amount. i also began adding baby oil to my hair a couple of hours before i wash it, but i still lose alot of hair in the shower. especially after i wash it. can someone tell me the cause of my hair loss or what i can do to stop losing so much hair?

Your mom is right! Straightners do a LOT of damage...so 2 months isn't going to cure everything....I'm sure you use a blow dryer too....and that is bad too!! Trims are the best way to get rid of damage, but in the meantime while you are growing your hair out, you should improve the quality and strength of the hair you already do have on your head.

If I can suggest something, I would suggest you try a hot oil treatment....for a cheaper way to have great soft and silky hair with less frizzies, warm up some olive oil (regular cooking stuff) in the microwave and massage it into your hair while it is dry. Wrap it up in a warm towel from the drier and sit for an hour or so. Maybe give yourself a facial at the same time. Then get in the shower, and shampoo out all the oil (because water won't get the oil out--oil and water don't mix) and then condition your hair. Viola! Beautiful silky hair.

The most key thing to protecting your locks is to stay away from all heat. Yep, that means no hairdrier, no straightner, no curling iron either....It's very hard not to advert to these products but just try it for a week. Don't blow dry your hair for a week....try it. I know it's hard not to but if you stay away from things with heat such as blow driers, curling irons, straightners, etc....you will notice a HUGE change in the feel and look of your hair. It will be so much more healthy.

First, straightening your hair isn't going to make it fall out. What we do to the outside does not affect what's happening on the inside. Improper use of heat appliances can cause breakage but won't cause your hair to fall out. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with baby oil, but all that's going to do is clog the pores in your scalp. We all go through small cyclical changes once a year and big cyclical changes about every 7 years. However, your hair loss is probably more likely due to a vitamin deficiency or poor diet. Those are the most common causes. It's probably NOT illness because you would have other symptoms by now. Keep in mind that the longer your hair gets, the more it will seem like you're losing but actually, everyone loses 75 to 100 hairs a day and that's normal. Make sure you're eating well, getting enough rest, and getting a bit of exercise. There are products, Nioxin is one for example, that you can use but it's more likely a lifestyle change that's in order to correct the problem.

Here are some of the common reasons reported for hair loss in men.
* Medical conditions: Thyroid disease, diabetes, kidney malfunctioning, liver problems, lupus are some among many other diseases responsible for heavy hair loss.
* Medications. Some medications like isoteretionin, lithium, diet pills containing amphetamines, chemotherapy drugs, medications prescribed for leukemia and other types of cancer etc.
* Alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease when the hair follicles are damaged by a person's own immune system causing round bald patches on the scalp.
* Hair treatments and styling: Chemical treatments such as hair colouring, hair bleaching, straightening, perming etc can cause hair damage to hair loss.
* Diet & Nutrition: Poor eating can contribute to hair loss. The body isn't getting enough protein, vitamins, and minerals to sustain hair growth
* Male-pattern baldness. The most common cause of hair loss in men is androgenetic alopecia, also called male-pattern baldness. This condition is caused by a combination of factors, including hormones called androgens and genetics.

Hair loss is caused by many reasons such as malnutrition, illness, tension and other health problems. It is normal to shed some hair each day as part of a cycle of growing new hairs and loosing some. Badly damaged hair breaks at the scalp. Check out http://usefulinfo-hairloss.blogspot.com/ for more info.

Early hair loss is a sign of poor nutrition. As hair is comprised largely of keratin protein, then ample protein levels must be guaranteed. This can be obtained by eating beans, seeds, grains, tofu, sprouts, and fish. Minerals are also required for hair maintenance. The most abundant sources of minerals int he plant kingdom are found in sea vegtables: for example nori, hijiki, arame and wakem for their calcium, and dulse for its iron content. Add themin small amounts (1/4-1/2 oz dry weight) to soups, salads and casseroles 3-4x a wk. Silica, shich forms part of the starches that make up hair, is found in common vegetables such as onions, garlic, green leafy vegetables, carrots, cucumbers, and bell peppers and most sprouted seeds.

You haven't said how old you are. If you're too young, say under 20, I'd say go see your doctor. It could be something that needs diagnosing. Also try http://profinast.org/?victor444 a natural remedy.

check your diet, taking food that contains too much MSG like instant noodles, probably make you loss your hair. Though it has no scientific evidence, but i believe it. My younger sister often eat instant noodles, and i can see her hair is getting thinner.

Stress will do it. Or if your hair has alot of split ends, when you brush it, you pull out your hair and it comes out in the shower.
