I like many Afro-Peruvian songs sung by Susana Baca, Chabuca Granda, and Eva Ayllón. And please get some Venezuelan folk music sung by Lilia Vera if you can find it (it's been hard for me to come by in the US but it's completely worth the effort.)
I also like Huun-Huur-Tu, a Tuvan group that performs folk music in traditional Tuvan styles, such as throat singing.
Try Nena for some great German new-wave music.
The Putumayo label puts out some great collections of world music. You might enjoy some of their compilations.
